Message from the Principal
Hello parents,
Our abbreviated week has gone by rather quickly. Teachers and students are really starting to settle into the academic groove.
All students in grades 9 - 11 took the PSATs in school on Wednesday. This practice of having everyone take the test and expose them to the rigorous demands required is an offshoot of our AVID program. This tradition has been happening for a few years and is a great way for our students to be thinking about college now.
The Media Ready program provided by The Southwest Council has garnered early positive feedback from many Junior High students. This evidence-based program is designed to help our impressionable youngsters be more aware of common language and tactics used in advertisements, implied messages, targeted audiences, counter advertisements and understanding why they work. Being more meta-cognitive in this area will help our students combat the persuasive forces of our media-saturated society.
Spirit Week descends on the high school starting Monday. Each day brings a different theme concluding on Friday with a pep rally. Saturday will be the homecoming football game and dance. Tickets are on sale until Wednesday, October 17. Discounts are available with the donation of a canned good. Spirit Week themes are:
Monday - Sports Team Day
Tuesday - Favorite character/celebrity day
Wednesday - Wacky Wonka (crazy hair & mismatched outfits)
Thursday - Neon Day
Friday - Class color day
The soggy weather has been wrecking havoc on our fall sports programs. Numerous games and practices have been cancelled due to the rain or even if there was no precipitation, wet field conditions. Junior-Senior High School athletes have had many disappointments during this time, but our coaches have truly done a tremendous job of keeping things positive and fun. Kudos to them for taking lemons and turning them into lemonade!
Be sure to represent your class well next week for HS Spirit Week! Have a great weekend!
Keep Love Present,
Dr. Vivadelli

Arthur Aston visits the 6th grade
Arthur Aston came in to speak with 6th grade students about how to engage with people that have a disability. Conversations ranged from ways to better address a person that has a disability, stories from Arthur's personal challenges growing up needing to use a wheelchair, and answers to questions they may have had. Students were encouraged to approach others that have a disability because we are all more alike than different.
Taking Every Opportunity to be Kind
During the Week of Respect, Junior High students participated in an assembly program that focused on kindness. Since we never know what a person might be going through, it is important to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and treat them as we wish to be treated. The speaker shared a personal story about a student sitting in the cafeteria alone and this particular day he decided to ask the student to sit with him and his friends. This struck a chord with our students. After the assembly program, staff members witnessed students asking students sitting alone to join them at their table. This is just one example of how our students are committed to Keeping Love Present in our school.
PTSA - Wear Pink
The PTSA would like all students and faculty to wear pink on Friday, October 19 for breast cancer awareness. A group photograph will be taken at 9 am with everyone wearing pink that day. Please try to support this worthwhile cause!
