A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL RASCO
Hello Lake Bluff Families!

Important Mask Reminders
Masks remain a key part of our COVID mitigation strategies. We ask that your child/ren wear a high quality, clean mask each day. If you are able, an extra mask is a good idea in case mask-mishaps occur as well. Masks for daily use should be 2-3 layers of cotton/ cotton blends, breathable, and well fitted to the face (covering the nose and mouth without gaps on the sides).
PLEASE NO Gaiters and bandanas. These do not seal the face and tend to be touched and adjusted more frequently by the user.
It takes a village: a Resource for Families
An ultraviolent series called Squid Game has surfaced on Kids TikTok. Some students may be discussing this series. Here is a resource to make you informed.
Our Lake Bluff Playground is ready for PLAYING! Beginning Monday, October 25th, the Lake Bluff playground will be turned over for access by all of our Crews! If you haven’t seen it already, please stop and take a glance at the beautiful equipment. We hope that our playground remains a source for fun and joy for all of our students and families!
Have a safe and happy weekend!
Tammy

Advanced Learning News 10/11-10/20/21
We kicked off some of our enrichment programs this past week and will start up others in the coming weeks. It’s not too late to join in the fun! Below is more information about each enrichment opportunity
Battle of the Books (BOB)
Grade level: 4th-6th graders
Dates: Monthly Check-ins during Guided Study
Last week we had our first Check-in meetings for Battle of the Books. The BOB teams are working their way through their books. We will continue to keep track of the teams’ progress with monthly check-in meetings up through February when the in-school Battles begin.
Duration: Teams begin reading books over the summer, and the program culminates with in-school battles (competitions) occurring in February and a Regional Battle during the week of April 4th-6th. The regional Battle this year will be Virtual.
Description: Teams consist of 3 students (all from the same grade level) and each team is given a list of 45 books to read. Teams meet regularly to discuss the books they’ve read, compare notes, etc. We will meet with the students once per week to check in and offer additional enrichment related to BOB and general reading comprehension skills.
WordMasters
Grade level: 3rd-6th graders
Our list #1 was distributed during our first WM meeting last week to all the students that signed up for WordMasters. In this packet will be practices for analogies and a Word/Definition match for the first list. This packet should be kept in school to work on during Guided Study.
Dates: Twice Monthly during Guided Study, dates to be announced. The next meetings will be on October 28th and 29th and we will offer a practice test to the WordMasters participants.
Duration: All year; Quiz #1 in November, Quiz #1 in February, Quiz #3 in April
Description: A few weeks before each quiz, students are given a list of 25 vocabulary words. Each quiz requires students to know and understand the definitions of these words and use them correctly in an analogy format. We will meet with the students twice before each test to check in and offer additional enrichment related to specific WordMasters practice as well as general analogy/vocabulary enrichment.
