March 25, 2022

March 25, 2022
Good morning, everyone!
April break is around the corner and it has been great to see so many students involved in spring sports!
In classrooms this week, students in 9-12 have been making course selections for the school year 2022/23. Alongside our selection of embedded honors, AP and dual enrollment courses, we are excited to share specific Healthcare, Environmental, Manufacturing, Technology, and Business and Entrepreneurship pathways students can specialize in as part of their Trailblazer experience. A full Course Catalog and class selection for 2022/23 can be found HERE.
Specific information about individual courses on offer and staff presentations can be found in this presentation.
Please find more information related to upcoming events in our busy school!
Best,
Chris

Zamer's Corner ~ Highlights from our Assistant Principal
One of the pillars of our Trailblazer model is our commitment to embed equity and inclusion throughout our school and in our curriculum. This week our 8th graders began discussion about our First Amendment right to freedom of speech. The discussion centered around language that is divisive, racist, or hateful and how all speech is protected; however, we are not protected from the consequences of using that speech.
Students brainstormed a list of consequences that might occur as a result of using such language; for example: losing friends, having a bad reputation, losing privileges. Throughout the conversation, students were encouraged to speak up to disrupt harmful language they may hear. More support for navigating this topic will be coming through our Advisory lessons in the coming weeks. Our teachers and students are creating brave spaces where all students feel welcome and supported. Well done, 8th grade!

MTRS Trailblazers are engaged in their work and in their classrooms. Using protocols in the classroom ensure students are engaged in discussion and all voices are heard. This week, students in Lisa Camarda’s Film Studies class watched “Saving Private Ryan” and used these protocols to discuss the director's choices. Students had an opportunity to prepare their questions in advance and share their feedback. Another great way our students are leaders in their learning; blazing their trails in the classroom!
