Scholarships to NexGen Fellows!

The Kullberg Foundation is generously offering half-scholarships to some of our most talented NexGen Fellows for the June 2014 program. The Kullberg Foundation is dedicated to Teresita and Lennart Kullberg, highly trained chemists working to build better and longer lasting lithium ion batteries for electric cars. As immigrants from the Philippines and Sweden, both believe very strongly in the power of education and its ability to change lives and make a powerful positive impact on society.

The scholarship will be offered by their son Hans Kullberg who has served as a mentor to our NexGen Fellows and is an active member and ambassador of the Emzingo community. A Wharton UPenn graduate, Hans believes strongly in the power and potential that business and business minds have to make a positive lasting change in our communities. He has seen the immense impact our fellows have had on our field partners in Peru and South Africa, and he wants to use the scholarships to offer more students this wonderful, life-changing opportunity.

Applications for the Kullberg Scholarship will be available to all accepted applicants who do not receive funding from their host university for the NexGen Fellowship. Thank you to Teresita, Lennart and Hans Kullberg for their amazing generosity and support of the Emzingo NexGen Fellowship!

Alumni Spotlight: Steffen Mueller

Emzingo is proud to present Steffen Mueller. Steffen completed the Emzingo program in Peru in 2013 working with Accion Contra el Hambre (Action Against Hunger). At ACH, Steffen and Alson Huang developed a model to measure the cost-effectiveness of ACH's malnutrition programs in Peru.

Emzingo connected Steffen to Reach Trade, where he is now the Campaign Manager of their Water for the America's Campaign, a bus tour from Boston to Brazil to create awareness about water sanitation in Latin America. We asked Steffen what he loved best about Emzingo and his experience. His words speak for themselves:

Where are you now?

"On the road! We are on a road trip from Boston (USA) to Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) to create a movement that will fight the water crisis on the American continent. We will host events in about 70 cities in 15 different countries to engage people and to raise awareness."

How has the Emzingo experience influenced your current career?

"I found my current project based on the Emzingo network. It is an amazing opportunity for me to get experience on the ground and in interacting with supporters and donors."

What is one of your best memories from the Fellowship?

"Having fun and being awesome in Peru! It was awesome because I know that my work had an impact in Peru. It was fun because I could spend two crazy months with incredible people."

What would you say to prospective students interested in the NexGen Fellowship?

"Do it! NOW!!"
