Literacy
In Writer's Workshop we have now transitioned to using lined paper. We are focusing on using a capital at the beginning and punctuation at the end. Please practice sounding out simple CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words at home with a focus on the **middle sound.
This week we worked in small groups with our High School Buddies again. We played initial sound BINGO, worked on word puzzles, rhyming games, and writing our star words using white boards. Such a fun time!

Yearbook Orders
Put in the following yearbook ID code 12128319
The order deadline is March 29, 2019.
Winter Weather
Please make sure your child has snow pants, boots, jacket, gloves, and a hat every day.
If you have any extras and would like to donate (gloves, mittens, or hats) I am collecting and keeping some for those that may forget or don't have any.
Thanks for the support!
Star of the Week
When your child is Star of the Week, I will send home a poster the week before for them to complete. They can draw pictures or use real pictures. Please have them return the poster the following Monday for sharing. For that week they will be line leader and calendar helper. On Friday of that week they can bring in *one show and tell item to share with the class.
Momo Messages for Parents:
Dear Crestview Families,
As some of you may be aware, there has been national and international media coverage lately about a creepy internet challenge known as “The Momo Challenge.” Allegedly, Momo targets young children by encouraging them to text a number on various online applications (e.g. YouTube, Minecraft, WhatsApp, etc.), which then sends them instructions to complete a series of increasingly bizarre and dangerous tasks from watching a horror movie to engaging in self-harm to taking their own lives.
While there are reports that the threat of the Momo Challenge may be overstated, we felt it important to make you aware of it. Additionally, given the growing national media coverage of the Momo Challenge, experts on mental health caution that such hysterical news coverage could potentially prove harmful, possibly even inspiring imitators. It can also cause some students to be fearful or anxious.
To that end, we encourage parents who are concerned about their kids being exposed to disturbing images like the Momo Challenge, to have intentional conversations with them about what they encounter online. The following are some resources we have found to be helpful in helping our young learners navigate the internet, as well as tools for families looking to parent in a digital age.
- Family Online Safety Institute
- Common Sense Media
- Creating a Family Media Plan (American Academy of Pediatrics)
- Teaching Kids About Internet Safety (GCFLearnFree.org)
- Talking with Kids About Being Online (Federal Trade Commission)
- NetSmartz (National Center for Missing and Exploited Children)
As always, if you have questions or concerns, please contact me or any member of the building leadership team.
Sincerely,
Jodi Husting
Crestview Principal
Supplies in Need
We are getting low on Kleenex boxes (cold season) if you are interested in sending a box in, we would greatly appreciate it!
Birthdays
At Crestview Elementary School we take time during morning announcements to highlight students who are celebrating their birthdays. This includes announcing their names and grade levels over the school wide intercom system. If for any reason you do not want your child’s name and birthday announced, please reach out to Janet Ellis, Office Coordinator, in our front office and she will make note of the request.
A reminder that due to life threatening allergies students should not be bringing birthday treats to school this year.
