Next Gen Goals and Student Engagement! Oh The Parallelism!
Next Generation Science Standards are upon us and they're exciting! There are so many ways in which the new standards are relevant to every content area - in the way that they help students build and practice important skills for their every day lives. Leave it to the amazing NP3 Science Department, who created their own curriculum to support the shifts and goals NGSS entails. They're experts on this - celebrate Science!
One of the biggest goals with NGSS is the shift in instruction from beginning a unit and/or concept with providing information to allowing students opportunity to explore and develop their own thoughts on a new concept. This allows students to create background and hypotheses through their own investigation. Powerful! An example of this is illustrated in the video below. Consider the following as you enjoy the show!
- How does NGSS instruction and shifts support student engagement in the classroom?
- What strategies in the video are used to support engagement?
- How does this affect instruction in your content area?
