Homework
Math
We will be finishing our unit on addition/subtraction to 20. Our learning target of: I can add and subtract to 20. An easy way to practice is to occasionally call out a math fact for them to solve. You can do this during dinner, in the car, during commercials, etc. We are finishing up our unit on subtraction and will begin mixing them together. We are also working on story problems.
We are also working on our fluency to 10 of addition and subtraction. A page came home in your child's homework folder so you can help with this goal at home. They need to know their facts of addition and subtraction to 10 just like their sight words. Please practice when you can.
I do have some websites to help your child practice adding and subtracting.
Writing
We are also learning about adjectives.
Also, feel free to visit my website and go to the writing tab. There are some fun games in green.
Spelling
Please help your child study for the test. We will pretest the words we are studying on Wednesday. On Friday, I will pick 4 words from our list and 2 words that are not on the list, but follow the spelling pattern for the week. There are also two sentences for your child to practice writing.
Spelling pattern: th and ch
Spelling words: with, them, this, much, check, chop, they, their
Sentences: Their black dog runs with them. Can they chop this big log?
Sight Words
Reading Skills
We will be beginning our target of: I can use words and pictures to help me describe key ideas in an informational text.
Reading / Phonics
Some groups have began the rivers and ladders. The rivers have the vowels written out along a river graphic. They have to be able to say the sounds to the vowel letters quickly and correctly to keep from "falling into the river". If you would like copies of the rivers to practice at home, just let me know. This is difficult if they have not truly master Vowel Town. The ladders take it a step farther. They have to be able to identify the vowel(s) in a word and only say the vowel sound for given words.
Social Studies
I hope you enjoyed the pictures on my website about our food experiences!
We will be creating their new culture from an island they have discovered. They will get to decide what the culture will eat, what type of shelter they have, and what sorts of things they will do with their family and friends. They will also get to create a flag.
