May Newsletter
Division 7
Spring has sprung!
May is looking to be another busy month in Division 7! Just a reminder to parents to please send your child to school with fruits, vegetables or other healthy snacks to keep your child nourished throughout the day. Also, as the weather gets warmer a water bottle is more important than ever. Thanks!
In Language Arts this month we continue with comprehension strategies and vocabulary activities as we begin a novel study, “Number the Stars.” Our writing will mostly be focused on non-fiction as Division 7 has begun a research project on Immigration to Canada. We are working hard on these projects and want to invite our families in to see the final product on Friday, June 7th in the afternoon. We hope that you can make it! In Science, we continue to learn about forces and simple machines Measurement and data analysis will be the focus in Math, after which we will learn about probability. A reminder that your child has a subscription to IXL math, giving them an opportunity to practice at home the concepts covered in class. We strongly encourage your child to practce at least three times per week to strengthen their math skills.
Congratulations to the students who participated in the Math League contest! We are very proud of all of them for their hard work! Jessie and Hemani tied for second place out of all the grade fives at Coyote Creek!
Interim reports go home on Thursday, May 2nd. Be sure to go over your child’s report with him or her. Discuss the positive aspects of the report as well as weaknesses. This would be a good time to set some academic goals to finish up the year on a strong note.
Running club is still going strong and will wrap up this month! Congratulations to Brandon and Tanvir for currently being in the top 10 boy and girl runners in the school! Way to go to all runners, working hard to run more each day! Keep up the great effort!
