10/13/20 Postpone In-Person Return for 3rd - 12th Grade
Families, Staff & Rainier Community:
We know the importance of in-person educational experiences to you and our students at Rainier School District. We are also keenly aware of how hard the COVID-19 pandemic is impacting the entire community.
Our hybrid planning and partial return to in-person learning was based on a significant drop in COVID-19 transmissions after our county health experts withdrew restrictions on in-person instruction. Unfortunately, the Thurston County Health Department has requested the Thurston County Schools postpone additional in-person learning opportunities for at least 14 days because of the increase of transmission rates in our county. This means, if we are offering in-person learning at our schools we can continue to do so, but they are asking that we not add additional classes/people for the next 14 days.
We will continue to provide in-person learning for our Pre-K, K, 1, 2 grades for now. Grades 3-12 will continue with the remote learning model that has been provided since the beginning of the school year.
It was a shock for all to see the COVID-19 data change so drastically. It is our hope that cases will decrease as quickly as they spiked and we can again work toward serving your students in-person.
I am sorry to bring this message to you. We are continuing to plan and prepare for hybrid instruction and we will be ready to make the transition when we can.
Thank you & stay well.
