Lincoln Lowdown
It’s hard to believe that we are approaching the end of summer break! Hopefully, you have been able to make the most of the summer. This warm weather has provided perfect opportunities to enjoy a nice day at the pool, an evening walk or catching fireflies in the yard. These are some of my favorite memories with my kids, I hope you are taking the time to enjoy this change from the school year. Our first day is earlier than in previous years, so please make the most of these final weeks. Although this summer was shorter, we have been quite busy here at Lincoln getting ready to welcome everyone back in mid-August.
Tuesday, June 25th we had our Summer Family Literacy Night. Our focus was on Nature. Students were able to listen to stories related to nature, took part in a shared reading about a ladybug, created constellations out of marshmallows and toothpicks, and created a watercolor print. A lot of fun was had by all and the favorite part for many was curling up with a book on our south lawn. Check out our Lincoln Twitter page @Lincolnd303 to see some of the pictures from our event. Next week we will host our welcome back BBQ/Family literacy night. Please plan on joining us on Wednesday, August 7th. Once again, our incoming kindergarten students are welcome to join us 30 minutes early at 5:30 p.m. to engage in literacy activities with our staff in the kindergarten room. We will then kick off our whole school BBQ and literacy activities at 6:00 p.m. on the blacktop. We would love to see everyone there! An Evite will be shared this tomorrow via parent link, please reply so we can plan accordingly.
If you are unable to make the BBQ the next opportunity to join us at Lincoln will be Monday, August 12th for our “Supply Drop Off” event. Families are invited to join us from 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. that day to drop off student materials and meet classroom teachers. At 9:30 a.m. staff members will be heading to our whole staff meeting so that we can ensure we are ready to go when the students join us on Wednesday, August 14th.
There are a few staff changes that have happened as we head into the 2019-2020 school year. We are excited to be welcoming the following staff members to our Lincoln family:
Karin Cranmer - LRC Director
Amy Kappele - Reading Specialist
Kellsa Jontz - Art teacher
Mallory Montes - Occupational Therapist, on maternity leave. Allison Peuler will start out the year with us
Jamie Reinbold - Part-time Resource teacher
Phillip Carter - Orchestra teacher
Stella Iori- - Teaching Assistant
Debbie Fick - Administrative Assistant
Having been one of those new faces just a year ago, I know that the Lincoln community will welcome these staff members and they will feel at home very quickly.

“Reading should not be presented to children as a chore or duty.
It should be offered to them as a precious gift.” —Kate DiCamillo
Dear Lincoln Families,
Please join us this summer as we come together to enjoy great books and strengthen our Lincoln School community. We are excited to offer two Lincoln Summer Family Fun Events. The theme for this summer’s events is “Nature and Its’ Wonders”.
Each event will offer opportunities to listen to stories read aloud. Families can also lounge on the lawn and read. You are encouraged to bring blankets, beach towels, sleeping bags or lawn chairs. Be sure to bring your favorite books and magazines.
Please join us for one or more of the times listed below. Stay for as little or as long as you’d like.

Come hungry. We will be offering BBQ. Bring your own beverages.
Welcome New Kindergarten Families!
We’d like to give your family the opportunity to get to know Lincoln staff members and interact with other kindergarten families. Prior to the June 25th Lincoln Summer Family Fun Event your family is invited to join us early (5:30-6:00 August 7th). You and your child(ren) will engage in fun activities that build kindergarten readiness. This time is optional; however, we encourage you to attend. This time will allow your new kindergartner to grow more comfortable within the Lincoln School environment. In addition, students will get to know their future classmates. Best of all, we will get to know your family too!
If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at (331) 228-2500.
