FROM SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION
As we reflect on the many things for which we are thankful, we want to take this opportunity to share just a few of them with you: We are thankful for our students who join us virtually every day ready to learn – they give us all a daily reminder of what is important and why we are educators. We are thankful for the support of the parents in creating an outstanding partnership for our students. We are thankful for the teachers, assistants, health assistants, bus drivers, secretaries, nurses, lunch and recess staff, support staff, and therapists who really care about student achievement and have the best interests of our students at heart. Lisbon Elementary is such a wonderful place because all of these people are willing to work together towards achieving the goal of success.
Every day we see dedicated and tireless individuals going above and beyond to make sure that great things happen in our school. Most importantly, we are thankful for the parents that have kept the faith in us. They continue to share their most valuable possession with us and work hard and advocate to be a partner in their children’s education, safety and well-being. For this, we are ever so thankful.
We will not be publishing our Lisbon Lines next week. The next publication will be on Friday, December 4th.
On behalf of the entire Lisbon Elementary Staff, we would like to wish all of you and your families a happy, healthy, safe and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday!
Mrs. Anoff and Ms. Wright

NEW INFORMATION
Counselor's Corner
Virtual Parent Conference Schedule
- Monday, 11/23 from 1:30-7:00 p.m.
- Tuesday, 11/24 from 1:30-7:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, 11/25 from 8:30 a.m.-3:40 p.m.
- Most teachers will host conferences on the evenings of 11/23 and 11/24.
- Teachers who do not host evening conferences will offer conferences on 11/25.
- There is no school for students on 11/25.
Please note:
Now that the scheduling program is closed, we will not be able to schedule a conference due to the logistics and preparation to coordinate the online conference. Usually, this is done by the front office, but due to the nature of the scheduling through Family File and Google Meet, teachers are the ones who do the preparation. Once conferences begin, they will be busy and unable to accommodate any last-minute scheduling requests.
If you experience technical difficulties on Monday or Tuesday during the conference window, you can join an open “Parent/Teacher Conference Support” Google Meet with Mrs. Drews, Mrs. Johnson, and/or Ms. Massey, our Guidance Counselor.

2020 FALL CONFERENCES: KEY INFORMATION FOR LES FAMILIESKey Information for LES Families
Length of Conferences is 15 minutes
Teachers have been highly encouraged to use digital/physical timers to honor time commitments. It has been recommended that teachers provide a friendly “2 minute” warning as you approach the end of the conference.
Please keep in mind that there is no flexibility built into the time frames for conferences. Please do not try to join early. The teacher will most likely be meeting with another parent. If you try to join early, you will see a message saying you are: “Asking to Join… You’ll join the call when someone lets you in”. Please wait on that screen until the teacher admits you.
You will receive an auto generated email reminder from Synergy two days prior to your scheduled conference.
If you choose to call in (versus using the link) for a conference, this may mean that information/work for your child cannot be shared with you visually.
Conferences will be with Homeroom teachers and will focus on ELA. Also, there will be conferences for GT Math Grade 4 students. Conferences for math and GT Math Grade 5 will be in February.
If you are interested in scheduling a conference with your child’s related arts teacher, you need to email the related arts teacher directly.
Please use your child’s HCPSS username & password to join the Google Meet. If you cannot, you will need a personal Gmail account or dial in by phone.
We highly encourage all families to sign up for their conference by 3:30 p.m. TODAY. If you are unable to schedule your conference by this afternoon, you will have to reach out to your child’s teacher directly to find a mutually convenient time for a conference. You will not be able to call the front office to have your conference scheduled after the deadline. It may not be possible to include you in the designated conference window.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Google Play Information
In an effort to continue expanding our authorized set of digital tools for virtual instruction, HCPSS has curated a new set of supplemental digital tools that are available only through Google’s menu of additional services. These supplemental digital tools are approved by HCPSS and comply with federal, state and Howard County Board of Education student data privacy policies. Due to Google’s settings, students must access this set of tools by utilizing Google’s menu of additional services, which requires consent by a parent or guardian.
To provide consent:
- Log in to HCPSS Connect.
- Select More Options from the left panel.
- Select HCPSS Google Menu from the middle of the page.
- Click the check box to provide consent. Changes are saved automatically.
A parent or guardian must provide consent for each student by selecting the student’s name at the top of the page.
The digital tools currently included are: Book Room, Word Work, Scratch BluBot, Scratch JR, Sketch-Up, Collector Classic, JamBoard, Google Earth and Minecraft: Education. After a parent/guardian provides consent, students using a HCPSS Chromebook can access the tools through the Google Play Store icon on the Chromebook when logged in with an HCPSS account. There may be a delay of up to three days before the apps appear in the Google menu and some tools may automatically appear on the Chromebook once consent is provided by a parent or guardian without the need to install them. If your child has not been issued a Chromebook, please make the request following the information found online.
Please note:
- HCPSS cannot guarantee that apps are available on devices other than HCPSS Chromebooks.
- Teachers may or may not choose to use any or all of these apps during instruction. Students will be notified when a particular app will be used for instruction.
- If you do not provide consent for your student’s access to these digital tools, your student’s teacher will provide alternative enrichment activities.
- In addition to these Google tools, HCPSS has approved a robust set of supplemental digital tools. Your child’s teacher will notify you of the particular supplemental digital tools being used in each class via email or on their Canvas course page.

COMMUNITY NIGHTS
Our Community Night on Friday, November 20th may have been cancelled, but the food baskets were still assembled by Ms. Dotti, Ms. Maxine, and Ms. Hawa! We are incredibly THANKFUL for our AWESOME and AMAZING custodial staff for all they do to help and support our school and the Lisbon community. They will be handed out to Lisbon families, local families, and other Howard County School families next week.
Each basket includes a full Thanksgiving dinner, including a whole turkey, and food for breakfast during the long weekend. We thank everyone who has donated time, food, materials, and money. This is a large undertaking, but we felt it was important to our community to hold it this year, and we will continue to help our community and our families.

THANK YOU THURDAYS FOR LES STAFF
Our teacher appreciation committee as well as parents who wanted to show our Lisbon staff our thanks and how much we appreciate them met (virtually) and the idea of Thank You Thursdays was created. For the rest of this school year 2020-2021 we are asking families, students, and our community to say thank you to our staff on Thursdays. An email, a picture, a video, a note can be emailed to any of our staff (under staff directory on les.hcpss.org) or you can mail it to the school and it will be sent to the staff member. Our entire staff has been working hard for our students, often in ways we do not see, most often longer than the school day. In the virtual learning world, they are also “learning” and “teaching” in ways different to all of us. If you would like to help on the teacher appreciation committee, please email 1stVP@lisbonpta.org
STAFF SHOUT OUT
Don’t want to wait until Thursday? You can submit a staff shout out through your child’s HCPSS account. This form goes to the Administration and is another way we can tell our LES staff how much we appreciate everything they do.

Your AmazonSmile account is the same as your Amazon account, and you receive the same great deals as on Amazon.
