PROGRAM COMPONENTS
Our guidance and counseling program is a comprehensive developmental program addressing the whole child to maximize achievement, social and emotional development, and post-secondary college and career readiness.
The program consists of the following 4 program components.
Guidance
The Guidance Curriculum is designed to systematically provide lessons to students that facilitate growth, development, and transferrable skills in the areas of educational, career, personal and social development. Counselors deliver guidance lessons once every six days to each of the classes in their caseload. Guidance lesson topics focus on intrapersonal skill development, interpersonal skill development, personal health and safety and post-secondary and career readiness.
Responsive Services
The purpose of Responsive Services is to support students in their time of need through both individual and small group counseling. Responsive services can have three levels of school counselor response: prevention, remediation, crisis or critical situations.
Individual Planning
The purpose of individual planning is to assist students in developing and addressing academic, career, personal, and social goals. In delivering individual planning services, school counselors use knowledge, the ability to integrate district and state requirements, and student preferences to assist students in developing realistic and attainable goals.
System Support
System support can be categorized in two areas: program management activities and support services. Program management activities establish, maintain, and enhance the total school counseling program. Support services include indirect services to students through school counselor relationships with other adults as well as campus, district, and community programs and services that can be beneficial to students.
Small Group Counseling
Small group counseling is an excellent way for students to learn skills, develop self-awareness, confidence, practice new behaviors and better understand how to effectively deal with some issues/concerns that life presents. Small group counseling involves students with shared concerns and goals. Each group varies based on the student's career, social/emotional developmental issues and situational concerns.
Small groups: The following is a list of groups that we offer (groups will be formed based on student need)
- Academic Readiness
- Motivation to Achieve
- Friendships
- Self-esteem
- Grief
- Divorce (family issues)
- Military Support
Sometimes small group counseling isn't the best placement for your child. If that is the case we will support your child through individual counseling for responsive services.
