PARKWAY ELEMENTARY
Parkway Pack’s Field Day 2022
Our Parkway Pack showed off their skills in our annual field day. They ran, threw, and jumped their little hearts out. Our 1st and 2nd graders ran in the 75 meter run and the 100 meter run, as well as the field events with the softball throw, long jump, and obstacle course. Our 3rd and 4th graders participated in the 100 meter run, 200 meter run, as well as the same field events. We also had a little competition with each grade level. Each class had their own relay team made up of the two fastest boys and two fastest girls in their classroom to win the Fastest Class Trophy.
In first grade, we had a tie between Mrs. Ingram’s class and Ms. Shahan’s class. The 2nd grade winner was Ms. White’s class. Our 3rd grade winner was Mrs. Maricle’s class. Our fastest class in 4th grade was Mrs. Cooper’s class.
The students showed great sportsmanship, cheered for everyone! We had such an amazing time. Thank you to Coach Stafford and Coach Haught for an incredible experience for our students!!

JUNIOR HIGH
The PTJH Pirate Family continues to roll on through any and all challenges we face! The early Monday morning power outage last week gave us another opportunity to practice flexibility, problem solving, and relentlessness when unexpected situations pop up in the path.
Close to 200 students participated in our annual Boys’ Night last week. The young men started the evening by fueling up with some pizza and cookies, while Coach Rockwell spoke with them about the character traits they need to develop to be the best person they can be. After the motivational and challenging message, boys spent their time enjoying various activities together: basketball in the gym, football and soccer on the field, pool and shuffleboard in the game room, cornhole in the foyer, and video games in the library. Everyone that attended had a great time!
Thirty students traveled to Region 7 to represent PTJH in a Robotics competition. Parker Johnson and Trent Fowler won the overall competition, while Leah Neff, Adrya Henson, and Raegan Mills won the Challenge Round that only gave students one hour to learn a new task and program their robot to complete it. Way to go Pirates!
In Athletic news, our Pirates and Lady Pirates are currently competing in soccer and tennis. The teams have been successful in recent contests and are looking forward to several more games and matches in the coming weeks. A number of our students participated in the recent Special Olympics event held at Pine Tree Stadium. These students had an awesome day, competing with their peers, cheering on their teammates, and bringing home awards.

BIRCH ELEMENTARY
Above and Beyond Award/ Teacher of The Year
Congratulations to Mrs. Debbie Pickard, our Registrar and attendance queen! She was recognized with Pine Tree’s Above and Beyond Award at the April board meeting. She was nominated by Ms. Mabe for going above and beyond in everything she does. Her attention to detail and ability to help make others' jobs easier is unmatched. We are so thankful to have Mrs. Debbie as part of the Birch First Family.
Congratulations to Mrs. Berryhill as well, our Birch First Teacher of the Year, for also being recognized at our board meeting. She is the best of the best! She truly belongs at the happiest place on earth!
Fundraiser
Birch Elementary recently participated in the first of its kind fundraiser sponsored by TeamFunded. Students and teachers received incentives such as gift cards, donuts, and glow light dance parties, which were a huge hit! We raised over $15,000 in just four short weeks that will benefit our students and teachers throughout the remainder of the year and into the next.
Beacon Award Recipient
We are very proud to announce our Beacon award winner Mrs. Lehenbauer honored by 4th grader Matthew Howsman. Matthew wrote a heartfelt essay about the impact Mrs. Lehenbauer has had on him and his love of reading. Mrs. Lehenbauer has positively influenced many students throughout her teaching career and we are so thankful to have her at Birch First.
Birch First Field Day 2022
We would like to extend a very special thank you to Coach Bolton, Coach Milner, our amazing administrators, Papa Pate and Mrs. Pate, and all our specials teachers and support staff who helped make this year's field day a HUGE success! Our students were ecstatic to show off their skills and cheer on their peers. We can’t wait to participate in the Elementary Field Day Finals on May 13th.
EXCEL
In this newsletter ExCEL would like to congratulate and celebrate our newest graduate, Keirsten Robert. Keirsten came to ExCEL about a month into the second semester this year. What encouraged her to come to ExCEL was the smaller classrooms and as she put it the "need for less drama." She says she found the ExCEL environment to be more peaceful.
Keirsten also appreciated the attention and help she was able to get from the teachers at ExCEL. She specifically mentioned the appreciation she had for lead teacher, Mrs. Jones. She appreciated how Mrs. Jones treated her as one of her own and she admitted that sometimes that meant receiving some "tough love."
When asked about her values she mentioned being trustworthy and expressed her appreciation for family. In fact, it was her mom she said who pushed her the most to be her best and graduate from high school. She says her mom "stayed on her" to get it done.
Keirsten describes herself as a shy person who really likes staying to herself for the most part. Her "hobbies" include shopping and sleeping!
Now that she has graduated, she wants to pursue a career as a physical therapist's assistant. She plans to attend Tyler Junior College. We wish her the best!
HIGH SCHOOL
FOUR MORE FRIDAYS TO GRADUATION
It is starting to get real for seniors at Pine Tree High School. There are only four more Fridays until this year’s senior class walks across the graduation stage. Seniors are busy finishing classwork and preparing for their upcoming events to wind down their high school career.
Seniors will have Senior Breakfast, Senior Walk, Senior Picnic and Senior Awards during the day and evening of Friday, May 20. Senior Breakfast starts the day in the cafeteria, followed by Senior Walk to all of the different campuses, Central Office and Transportation to give the district a chance to say goodbye. Senior Picnic is next at Flying Feathers Ranch north of Longview, and finally that evening at 7 p.m. the Senior Awards ceremony will take place in the Pine Tree Theatre. Graduation is Thursday, May 26 at 8 p.m. at the stadium.
The Choir Pop Show is Saturday, May 7 in the Pine Tree Theatre and the spring band concert is scheduled for May 14. Baseball and softball both end their seasons this week, and football has begun spring practice under the direction of new head coach Jason Bachman. The Spring game is scheduled for May 17.
Special Olympics this past weekend saw many athletes compete from Pine Tree, and a host of volunteers from the high school were on hand to make sure the day went smoothly. Everyone had a good time despite heavy winds and slightly warm temperatures.
Yearbooks arrive on campus May 8 and will be delivered to students beginning May 10. Students can purchase them now and through the end of school for $80.
National Honor Society will hold its induction for students on Thursday, April 28 at 7 p.m.in the Pine Tree Theatre. Seniors and juniors in this organization will be honored.
There is a lot going on in the next four Fridays so students will be very busy until it is time for them to get out for summer and have a well deserved rest. It has been a great year at Pine Tree. Gung Ho! Young scholars.
