Weekly Newsletter
October 14, 2022
Hello WES families,
It's been another great week here at WES filled with learning and fun! In this newsletter, there is a great deal of information about upcoming events at WES and in our community. Thank you for taking the time to review it.
We have many students taking advantage of the Free Breakfast Program which is wonderful. However, over the next couple of weeks, the staff and I may make some changes to our procedures to help morning routines in the classroom run more smoothly. I will be sure to communicate any changes to the students and to families. In the meantime, please speak with your children about the free breakfast. I believe many students are getting extra food that their parents may not know about or may not want their children to have. A breakfast menu can be found in this newsletter. Students can get breakfast as soon as they arrive to school beginning at 8:50 and ending at 9:10. Please know that the staff and I are trying to take care of the children and manage instructional time. Lastly, we know that there could always be extenuating circumstances, and we would always provide food to a child who arrives late to school and needs breakfast.
For those families interested, the Council Rock Spirit sale ends Monday, October 17th.
Go Phillies!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sam

ALICE - Enhanced Lockdown Drill
We are all committed to the safety of all the students in Council Rock and Wrightstown Elementary. We continually work with local police to learn and implement best practices in school safety and security. Council Rock has adopted a set of federally endorsed protocols for an intruder on campus situation, known as ALICE. The acronym stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. All Council Rock staff and administrators have been trained in the ALICE protocols. One difference between our past "traditional lockdown" and "enhanced lockdown" is our classroom doors will be barricaded. This will look different depending on the grade level and the age of the children.
We are conducting an Enhanced Lockdown Drill Tuesday morning, October 25th. This enhanced lockdown drill will be no different than drills conducted in the past. Specifically, WES will use the all call intercom to signal the drill. All students will lockdown in their classrooms with their classroom teacher. We will use the intercom to end the drill. Newtown Township Police and/or CRSD Security personnel may be on site.
It’s always a good idea to review this information with your children prior to the drill. The attached social story is a resource parents can use to help children understand how we are approaching our added safety measures. The social story helps put these procedures in "kid friendly" terms! All teachers shared this story and reviewed it with students.
Halloween
- We will celebrate Halloween with a parade and classroom parties on Monday, October 31st.
- Like previous years, the WES Halloween Parade will take place at 9:45 am and the parties for grades K-5 will follow immediately after.
- 6th grade will have their party in the PM and teachers will be in touch with details.
- PM Kindergarten will have the parade and party in the afternoon. Mrs. Stahl will communicate to her parents about the times in a couple of weeks.
- Selecting the right costume is very exciting for our children and is a very important decision for some students to make. Please remember that costumes incorporating weapons and/or depicting violence are not appropriate to bring to school. Please be selective when helping your child choose a costume to bring to school. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Free Breakfast Program
A message went out from the school district this week with information about the free breakfast program. Council Rock will begin offering free breakfast to all enrolled students at the elementary and middle school levels starting Monday, October 3rd through the end of the 2022-2023 school year.
What you need to know:
- No sign-up is required.
- Daily breakfast menus will be available on our menus website.
- Students enter their lunch ID number and get breakfast in the cafeteria upon arrival at school.
- Breakfast will be pre-bagged and have an optional milk and fruit selection.
The protocol for WES will be that children may pick up the bagged breakfast in the cafeteria upon arrival to school on their way to their homeroom. Students will use their lunch ID when picking up the breakfast, and then they will eat in their homeroom. Issues may arise with disruptions to our morning classroom routines or creating excessive messes in classes. We will address these needs as we begin the program, and, if needed, we will make changes as to where the students will eat their breakfast. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have questions.
