ARGYLE HOUSE
Hamilton Boys' High School -Term 3, Edition 2, August 2019
Bennett House, Matthew Allen Cup Champions 2019

Matua Mita Graham (Senior Master) worked closely with Head of Sutherland House, George Butcher and Deputy Head Prefect, Blake Morgan, to co-ordinate an 8-man junior and senior team event. Because it was 1-1 after both races, a decider was set up with a 6-man team from each House comprising 3 juniors and 3 seniors to race off.
With Bennett House winning the Indoor Rowing Matthew Allen Cup event, they now have an unassailable 16-8 lead in the overall Matthew Allen Cup, hostel house competition, with 2 events remaining.
Congratulations to Seth Roe (Head of Bennett House) and all of Bennett House, as they are back-to-back champions.
Senior Exams & Study Leave, Set Leave
Senior Exams
They take place during Weeks 4 & 5 of Term 3.
All Years 11, 12 and 13 students are able to take study leave (studying from home) from 3.15pm Wednesday 14th August. If they remain within Argyle or Grove then they must follow the study regime we have successfully put in place over the past few years. Those residing in Argyle House will study under the supervision of a Master for the duration of the morning in the hostel prep room over 2 sessions. Session 1 goes from 9.00 - 10.30am. Session 2 goes from 11.00am - 12.00pm. Those in Grove will study in their rooms but also have the option of coming across to Argyle to study in the prep room.
After lunch, all senior boys have 3 options:
1. Continue studying under the supervision of our GAP student upstairs in the prep room from 1.00 - 3.00pm.
2. Take town leave.
3. Relax in their room, hostel communal areas or TV lounges.
Normal Prep times will occur as normal each evening.
Year 10 students sitting mock NCEA Year 11 Exams:
If they have an afternoon exam they will have the morning to study in the hostel prep room following the arrangements for Years 11, 12 and 13 boarders. If they have a morning exam they are to attend their Periods 4 & 5 classes in the afternoon.
Meals during Senior Exam week
During week 3, the boys will be filling in a spreadsheet that will inform the hostel which 3 daily meals they will be remaining in for during exam week. Each students will record "I" for meals they will be IN for and "O" for meals they will be OUT for. This will help the kitchen prepare the correct amount of meals over this period. The boys have been advised to think carefully about their plans before completing this spreadsheet from Monday 12th August.
Set Leave
The hostel closes at 5.30pm Friday evening 9th August and re-opens 5.30pm Sunday evening, 11th August.
Enjoy your weekend.

Waikato Armed Offenders Squad Training Exercise, Thursday 25th July, at Hamilton BHS

50 Argyle House boarders had written parental consent to be part of a Waikato Armed Offenders Squad training exercise, that was conducted in the school grounds between 6.30 - 8.00pm on Thursday 25th July.
The scenario was an active shooter on-site at school. The boys were placed into 5 groups with each group having a different role to play e.g. held hostage. It was very realistic for those of us that live close by, with numerous blanks being fired when the exercise was underway.
The Police gave high praise to our boys afterwards, with the AOS benefiting from having our boys act out their specific group roles.
Thanks to all our parents/caregivers that supported this training exercise.

Dear Yr 11-13 Students and Parents
Term Three will be a very busy one for our senior students, with the 2020 course selection process just around the corner and the practice examinations coming up in Week 4.
We ask that all boys please make sure their NCEA Tracking Booklets are in their diaries and up to date with the latest credits. Boys need to be aware of their achievement status as they approach the business end of the academic year. Tracking Booklets must be brought to school every day so that they can be updated in classes.
