Welcome Back Highlights

The first few weeks have been very overwhelming in the most positive sense! There is no question that students and staff are so happy to be back on campus. There is no greater joy than to see students on the playground running around with friends and learning with their teacher in the classroom.

National City Police Department Giveaway

Thanks to the generous partnership between Ira Harbison and NCPD and Rady's Safe Routes to School every single one of our students received a new backpack stuffed with supplies on our second day of school! The NCPD was out in full force on July 27th delivering backpacks to classrooms. Our kids were thrilled!

Family Involvement Opportunities

Do you want to get involved in activities on campus? Even though we are not yet ready to have volunteers back on campus we have many virtual opportunities for families to get involved.

  • PTA - We are looking for family members who want to join the Parent Teacher Association. This group of volunteers helps with fundraising and family engagement activities.
  • SSC - School Site Council is an incredible opportunity to make major decisions about the way that Title 1 Funding is spent.
  • ELAC - The English Learner Advisory Committee is responsible for evaluating the needs of our English Learners to determine what we can do to better support them.

REACH Information

There is still space in REACH! If you would like to enroll your child(ren) in the REACH program please fill out the online application. Application steps:

  1. Parents complete the online REACH application,
  2. Parents will wait to be called for a scheduled appointment to sign an in - person waiver
  3. They will receive for call in order to be informed of their process and placement update for the REACH program

What are we doing on campus to stop the spread?

As you know, we couldn't be happier to have students back on campus this year. There are many mitigation strategies that we are using to ensure that students stay healthy on our campus. Everyday we remind students to:

  • Wash/sanitize their hands frequently,
  • Wear a mask inside and outside,
  • Keep a safe distance, when possible

Teachers are working hard to make sure that these mitigation strategies are becoming routine. If you can help remind students of these measures when they are at home that would help us tremendously!

My Child is Sick? Now What?

If your child is sick please keep them home and alert the office. Do NOT send your child to school if they display and of the following COVID-19 symptoms:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

Please make sure that you call (619-336-8200) or email the office (, or to let us know that your child will not be coming to school because they are sick. The office will let you know when and how your child can return to school.

If someone in your home has tested positive for COVID-19 please alert the offie as soon as possible so that we can advise you on next steps.

We are following the San Diego County Office of Education COVID-19 Decision Tree when children are sick. Please contact Ms Meghann if you have any questions. The Decision Tree changes frequently depending on guidance.

How Can You Help Stop the Spread?

  • If you are on campus to pick up your child at dismissal please consider wearing a face covering, regardless of vaccination status.
  • Wear a mask when you enter the front office.
  • Remind your child(ren) of the mitigation strategies to stay healthy (wear a mask, wash hands and keep distance)

Why Was My Child Sent Home?

Any time a child is sent to the Health Office with COVID-19 symptoms the Health Aide will evaluate them to determine next steps.

COVID-19 symptoms include:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

If your child is sent home due to COVID-19 symptoms you will have two options:
  1. Have your child tested. If their test is negative they will need to stay home until symptoms have improved according to existing school policy, typically 24 hours without fever and no use of fever-reducing medicine. Please bring/submit their negative test result to the office.
  2. If you opt not to test your child they will need to stay at home for at least 10 days after symptom onset, or the date a positive test sample was collected, whichever is earlier. Return on or after Day 11 with improving symptoms if fever free and no use of fever reducing medicines in the last 24 hours
