Last call for YA Fandom Frenzy Tickets!
- Students - please see Mrs. Weaver to pick up & turn in your permission slips this week.
- Faculty - please let Mrs. Weaver know by Friday if you would like to attend.
The event will happen on Sunday during Long Fall Weekend. It is your chance to break some bread with 15+ well-known authors, check out their latest works, and enjoy the smell of new books with friends. Mr. Yan and Mrs. Weaver will be driving the group and would love for you to join.

Next week, the K-3 classes will meet with Marilyn Sadler, the author of Charlie Piechart and the Case of the Missing Pizza Slice. Later in October, 4-6th graders will host Sean Connolly, scientist and author.
Contests for Students
Writing CONTEST (Grades 5-8)
Due Date for Entries: October 12, 2015
Here’s how it works:
1. INTERVIEW a parent or guardian about money management.
2. ASK about a time when he or she set a financial goal and then made saving and spending choices to achieve it.
3. WRITE a 200 - to 250 - word essay (based on your interview) that describes the true story of achievement, and what lessons you can apply to your own future financial decisions.
Optional: Consider including a photo or drawing with your essay!
PRIZES Grand Prize winners will receive: • $1,500 to be used for education • Classroom library of Scholastic books First Prize winners will receive: • $1,000 to be used for education • Classroom library of Scholastic books Second Prize winners will receive: • $500 to be used for education • Classroom library of Scholastic books Two winners at each prize level will be selected: one from grades 5–6 and one from grades 7–8!
ART CONTEST (Grades PreK–K)

Pout-Pout Fish had oceans of fun on his first day of school. Draw a picture of yourself having fun at school for a chance to win a classroom party with an art and reading kit for your entire class.
