How to Ask for Letters of Recommendation for College Applications (for next year)
Hello Juniors! You may already be thinking about which teachers you will approach next year for a letter of recommendation. You may be wondering who would be best to ask, how to ask them, and what you need to provide them when you ask... Click HERE to view a short article with some tips about this process.
Here at Westview, it is important to give your teachers adequate notice when requesting a letter of recommendation, at least 2 weeks is suggested but more would be great. While most teachers will want you to wait to ask them for recommendations next year in the fall, you can gather information now by finding out what their process for requesting recommendations is and what you would need to provide them. This will give you the opportunity to put things together over the summer, including a list of which teachers you plan on asking.
You may also need a letter of recommendation from your school counselor. If you are applying to any schools through the Common Application, a counselor recommendation is usually required. In order to request a letter of rec from your counselor you will need to complete the LOR Packet and schedule an interview with your counselor in the Fall. More information will be available about this in the Fall and the counselor LOR Packet will be available before the end of the year so you can work on it over the summer.
