KA Classroom Update #3

What's Happening in KA?
We have been busy in KA! We are working on listening closely and following our classroom rules and routines. We read books such as Know and Follow Rules and Share and Taker Turns by Cheri J. Meiners. These simple, but highly relevant books teach us how to work together in our classroom community so that we all feel safe and happy together.
As part of our Social-Emotional curriculum Second Step, we are working on how to be assertive. What does it mean to be assertive? It means to be a problem solver. When we encounter a problem, such as not knowing what to do when you are looking for a book, but cannot find it. Instead of waiting for a teacher to find the book for us, we can begin to look for the book ourselves! We take turns during closing circle to practice role playing how to be a problem solver.
Many students have been complaining of being tired throughout the day. Please remember to make sure your child is going to be early! Also, if you pack home snack/lunch for your students, make sure to include enough food. While we always try to have extra snacks on hand, we occasionally run out. Sleep and fuel is vital for us to have successful days!
Also, there is important information located at the bottom of the newsletter. Please make sure to read it as well.
Cheers to Fall!

Number Stories
We are also working on ways to represent our work and thinking through pictures, for example drawing shapes to represent the objects in the story. We are also exploring how to create number sentences with addition and subtraction symbols.

Music with Mr. Kramer
Hello kindergarten families! First, a request: if you have a song in your family -- maybe something you learned from your parents or grandparents, or something that other families at BPCS might not know -- please tell me about it. Whether it is short or long, serious or silly, please sing it (or have your child sing it) for me. I would like to record your songs, find out the stories behind them, and teach them to the BPCS community. If we get enough, I’d even like to present them in a concert!
In music, kindergarteners kicked off the year by playing singing games like “Here We Sit In a Ring” and chanting games like “My Father Is a Butcher”. Kindergarteners also moved rhythmically and creatively to music, and in our weekly Big Sing, we all sang a healthy dose of songs that are just plain fun to sing, like “Down By the Bay”, “Apples and Bananas”, and “I Had a Rooster”. Through our work we have been responding to musical cues, developing basic rhythmic and melodic skills, and, of course, having a lot of fun.

¡KA habla Español!
KA started the school year in full Spanish Immersion. ¡Sí! No inglés. Solo español.
Everyday in our class we use music, theater and total physical response to explore the Spanish Language. We learned how to greet, how to introduce ourselves, how to express our feelings (¿Cómo te sientes? ¿Feliz, triste, enojado, asustado o calmado? ) and now we are exploring body parts and how to move inside the classroom in Spanish. Levántate, siéntate, derecha, izquierda, arriiba y abajo. We are developing our listening, and speaking kills in Spanish.
Muchas gracias Cerebro Multilingue- Thanks Multilingual brain!
¡We are going to learn MUCHO ESPAÑOL!
Here you can find our Spanish Hits! Keep practicing at home!

There are plenty of ways you can support our learning experience and encourage your student to grow her/his interest in Spanish by reading books at home and listening to music in Spanish. Participate in a cultural event in your community that expose your student to the Spanish culture, such as plays, concerts, and festivals.
Also, Spanish Course is looking to expand its BOOK collection and resources. We would be very thankful for any Spanish book donations.
