Attendance Matteres

Attendance Matters! The Golden A Award

As I continue to update the Attendance Bulletin Board each day, I am proud of your students for attending school regularly!

We have had numerous days of many classrooms having 100% attendance!

Way to go everyone!

In recognition of the classrooms with the best attendance each week, I will be awarding the Golden A award. Much like the Golden Spatula, the Golden A award will be a large wooden gold painted A that you may hang in your room to recognize that your classroom had great attendance for the week. Your classroom will be asked to deliver it to the next recipient the following week.

In addition to receiving the Golden A award for having the best attendance rates for the week, the recipient classroom will be able to seek approval from administration to have 5 extra minutes of recess to use or to bank for an extended recess time later on.

Did you know that there are 11 principles of effective character education?

These principles are what we use to guide our collaborative efforts in creating a firm foundation for our school community based upon the Six Pillars of Character.

Briefly, these principles are:

  1. The school community promotes core ethical and performance values as the foundation of good character.
  2. The school defines “character” comprehensively to include thinking, feeling, and doing.
  3. The school uses a comprehensive, intentional, and proactive approach to character development.
  4. The school creates a caring community.
  5. The school provides students with opportunities for moral action.
  6. The school offers a meaningful and challenging academic curriculum that respects all learners, develops their character, and helps them to succeed.
  7. The school fosters students’ self-motivation.
  8. The school staff is an ethical learning community that shares responsibility for character education and adheres to the same core values that guide the students.
  9. The school fosters shared leadership and long-range support of the character education initiative.
  10. The school engages families and community members as partners in the character-building effort.
  11. The school regularly assesses its culture and climate, the functioning of its staff as character educators, and the extent to which its students manifest good character.

These 11 principles are the goals of Chris Yung Elementary School and our community as we work together to form new traditions, incentives, and a positive school climate within our school culture.

Bet you didn't know there were 11 of them!
