Chromebook Care & Repair

Please do not attempt to fix a broken chromebook at home. We have the tools and the HP parts at school to fix most problems. If you try to fix your chromebook it will void our warranty.

What is Google Classroom?

Google Classroom is part of the Google Apps for Education Suite of tools. It makes distributing and collecting assignments easy to do in a digital environment. When students log into their classroom page they can see upcoming assignments for all of their classes. All of their assignments are stored in folders in Google Drive. This helps the students stay organized and reinforces positive file management habits.

As students head to any college setting, they will have to access course materials via a learning management system (LMS) and submit assignments digitally. Learning to navigate and manage their assignments in Google Classroom will assist them as they move to more robust platforms like Blackboard and Canvas, used by many area colleges. Learning to access and manage digital assignments is one way we are helping our students prepare to be college ready.

Read&Write for Google Chrome

There is a purple puzzle piece that hangs down from the url bar in Google docs and Google slides. This is a piece of assistive technology software that is pushed out to every student account. It provides word prediction, text to speech (it will read text to you), speech to text (you can dictate to it), highlighting, vocabulary support, and a built in dictionary. When a student opens up a pdf document on their chromebook, they have the option to select open with ReadWrite and they can highlight and take notes on the pdf document.

My child doesn't receive special Education services. Why does every student have it?

We believe in Universal Design Principles. This means that all students may benefit from assists at different times and for different reasons. Real world examples of this are mothers pushing a stroller up a wheelchair ramp to gain access to a building or pushing the button to automatically open a door when your hands are full, even though you aren't in a wheelchair. Students learn to ignore the puzzle piece but if they need it, it is there. Some students find they can dictate assignments faster than they can type assignments.
