I CAN BE LIKE JESUS
It's our first Sunday gathering of 2019 and our last week of Holly Jolly Kitchen! This week kids are learning "I Can Be Like Jesus" as we learn about Jesus Growing in Wisdom from Luke 2:41-52.
As we start this new year, I think "I Can Be Like Jesus" is a good reminder on so many levels. We were created, our original purpose, is to be image-bearers of the Lord and to rule and reign over the earth. But we don't become like Jesus by striving or white-knuckling it, it's in our act of receiving Him. He's the one who transforms. We get to remain, remember, abide. In that closeness, in our knowing Him, He gives us access to more of Himself, to a life that is marked by His character.
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
-John 15:4-5
This Sunday, for adults we're starting a new series called "First" as we talk about seeking first the Kingdom. These things go hand-in-hand. What does it look like for you to seek Him first? If godliness is something that happens as we experience knowing Him more that doesn't stop at salvation. What are things you sense the Holy Spirit drawing you into to know him better? Maybe it's reading through the Bible or prayer or fasting or joining a group. Whatever it is, let's trust him and take that step of faith towards knowing Him more. If Jesus grew in wisdom, stature, & favor with God and man and he WAS God, I know he has more available for each of us!
Everything we could ever need for life and godliness has already been deposited in us by his divine power. For all this was lavished upon us through the rich experience of knowing him who has called us by name and invited us to come to him through a glorious manifestation of his goodness.
