October 2017 News to Know
Principal's Message
We appreciate the support of our families. We love to see Watchdogs, volunteers, and guests in the building. Are you looking for a way to get involved? We could use some help with organizing our guided reading library or reading with a student. Email me if you are interested.
Happy Fall to you All!

Veteran's Day Performance and Picture Show
This year’s Veterans Day program will be presented by the 2nd grade on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. We hope you will join us as we honor those who are currently serving, or have served, in the United States Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, or Coast Guard. We also hope you will invite veteran family members and friends.
We are preparing a slideshow of United States veterans who are related to Haslet students to be used in the program and in our student Veterans Day assemblies. We invite you to send in a photo of any family member who is currently serving or has served in the past.
Guidelines:
* Only one photo per veteran.
* No collages (multiple photos scanned together).
To submit a photo:
* Scan and save your photo as a “.jpg” file and include the veteran’s name, military branch, and who they are related to in the name of the file. For example:
“Robert Miller–Army Ranger–Ms Reeds nephew.jpg”
* Email the photo to Ms. Miller at rebekah.miller@nisdtx.org.
* The deadline for photos is Friday, November 3, 2015. I’m sorry, but we cannot accept late photographs.
Please do not hesitate to email should you have any questions.

Fill the Bus- Oct. 23-Nov. 10th (1st grade Service Learning Project)
"Fill The Bus" encourages the NISD community to donate canned & non-perishable food items to local charities. Donations will help make the holiday season easier for struggling families.
All donations will support local charities. Each school may pick their chosen charity or choose to support Justin & Roanoke Food Pantries.
To make things exciting, we are turning "Fill the Bus" into a competition. When Fill The Bus ends, Durham & Aramark employees will travel to each campus to collect donations. After loading all donations into a school bus, we will weigh each bus. The school with the heaviest bus will win.
Give a little extra to help our community during the holiday season! Grade level boxes are lined up in front of the library. Send in your canned goods!
The event is sponsored by Durham Transportation & Aramark.
Safety Updates/Reminders
*In order to ensure safety for students, all visitors must sign into the front office and get a visitor sticker. You will need your Driver's License the first time that you go to sign in, so please be sure to bring that with you. Unfortunately, our system has not been saving all visitors' IDs, so please bring your license every time, just in case.
*If you need to check your child out for early dismissal, they must be checked out by 2:30pm.
