Colt Round Up
February 10, 2019
In solitude we discover that our life is not a possession to be defended, but a gift to be shared.
- Henri Nouwen
With Appreciation:
- Kudos to Holly for picking up another group of kiddos for tutoring - we now are providing after school math tutoring for identified students in grades 1-5! Thank you Holly & Darren for their leadership!
- Thank you to 5th grade for sharing their conga line strategy at our staff meeting and to Lori Fury for her discussion about math talks! Stay tuned for more to come
- A big bravo to grades TK, K, 2, and 5 for their patience this week with both dental and hearing screenings - we appreciate your effort to make it efficient and minimally impacting! We have one more screening this spring - vision!
- Three cheers for the 2nd grade team for getting through GATE testing this week! Not an easy task, and you rocked it!
Quick Reminders
- Per tech & maintenance: when unplugging chromebook carts, please be sure only adults are unplugging the cart from the wall, and please grasp the cord by the plug when pulling it from the wall.
- StarStruck is underway! There is NO practice this week, though. We'll be taking order forms/$ for tickets - please send anything you collect to Michelle in the office. Also, the quick rehearsal times for the assembly/show days has been established. Check out this doc and find your time at the bottom of the page for your time slot. If it interferes with recess, we'll find a way to make it work - just let me know. Reminder that there is no practice the week of 2/11!
- In the past, we've hosted an after school "volunteer appreciation event." This year, our goal is to host it before school as a breakfast - stay tuned!

Gate Duty - It's the Home Stretch!
We need some help with the gate next week and the week thereafter.
I think that anyone who does this duty will tell you it's a great way to start your day! Big thanks to the staff who have helped out to make this happen!
Policy Reminders
PBIS Update
In February, we are recognizing students who are walking in line appropriately. We are also ordering new ticket pads (we've gone through our big box - yes!) with an additional option to recognize kids for developing/using a growth mindset. We are going to try a new ticket pull process - it involves a prize wheel at lunch! Students will be able to drop their tickets into grade level boxes starting on Monday. 1st grade had some fun ideas about other ways we might use tickets - stay tuned!
iReady data Checkin
YES! Two weeks in a row our overall school-wide time on task for the Reading iReady Intervention was 30 minutes! We made it to 28 minutes/student in iReady Math this week, which was a nice little bump up from last week.
Kudos to the following teachers for encouraging their kiddos to hit their 30+ minute target in reading intervention: Ochoa, Stelma, Cassidy, Shelton, Hill, Wright, Wetzstein, Risucci, Shye, Whiteside, and Cook.
Kudos to the following teachers for encouraging their kiddos to hit their 30+ minute target in math intervention: Ochoa, Wright, Cassidy, Hill, Risucci, Botonis, Stelma, Whiteside, Wetzstein, Shye, and Sliepen,
Our next diagnostic window is quickly approaching for grades K-5 - March 1-15. I'm excited to see how our students do given the volume of intervention time we are seeing them engage in
