From the Principal's Desk....
Dear Lower School Families,
It is hard to believe that we will be approaching spring break as well as Easter in a few short weeks. Some of you may be going on a special trip with family or enjoying time at home. While the thought of vacation or family trip is on my mind, I wanted to just review some of the guidelines when requesting an excuse for an educational trip.
Expectation for students taking educational/family trips:
- Ask for an Educational Field Trip Request Form from Mrs. VanHart.
Parent submits the request for approval at least two weeks prior to the trip.
Mrs. VanHart informs parents that the trip is approved/not approved.
Upon request, teachers will gather the classwork that a student will miss during their absence and send to parents. When the student returns, they will have the same number of school days to make-up their work as they had been absent. For example, if a trip lasts five school days, a student has five school days to complete their classwork beginning the first day they are back in school.
I want all our families to enjoy their educational/family trip, so a good rule of thumb is to not try and complete all the missed classwork on the trip. Enjoy the experience since there is an ample amount of time to complete assignments upon returning to school.
Yours in Christ,
Mr. Shirvinski
The Transformed Heart- What Does It Mean to Love God and One Another?
Question for this week: What happens when believers are "united in love?"
Verse for this Week:
Colossians 2:2-3 “My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

Substitute Nurse and Substitute Teachers
We are looking for a substitute nurse, who can help out once in a while when Mrs. Krouch and Mrs. Hoover cannot come to WSCA. We are also looking for additional substitute teachers, PreK-12th grade. Please fill out an application on our website and help us spread the word!
Traffic Reminders
As you are driving in and out of our school parking lot, we would like to remind you to drive slow, not use your cell phones, and notice the new stop sign on Vine Street. In the mornings, please unload "on the curve." Please teach your children to stay buckled until your car is in park. We see many kids standing up or putting their backpacks on while the parent is still driving. Those few seconds saved are not worth it - we would rather your child be safe! There may not be a teacher there to open the car door for them, but they can let themselves out when you've pulled forward as far as you can!
Mother-Son Movie Night
Thanks to all of the families who attended the mother-son movie night, sponsored by CATS. It was lots of fun. We think the boys might have enjoyed playing in the gym as much as watching the movie!
Open Houses for Prospective Families
We have now entered "open enrollment" time at WSCA, meaning that we are accepting applications from new families to join our WSCA family. Please help us advertise our upcoming Open Houses:
Sunday, March 18, 2:00pm, PreK-12th grade open house
Tuesday, April 10, 6:30pm, PreK-12th grade open house
If you have any questions about re-enrollment, enrollment for new families, or how you can best help advertise our school to prospective families, please contact our admissions director, Mary Beth Gilge, at mbgilge@westshorechristian.org. For starters, share events and posts from the WSCA facebook page to your personal page!
Volunteer Cashier Needed
We are in need of a cafeteria cashier volunteer. If you, or someone you know, is interested in ministering to our school and students in that way, please contact Sandy Berry at sberry@westshorechristian.org. Volunteer clearances will need to be completed prior to starting.
WSCA Lower School Yearbook Orders
Go to treering.com/validate to purchase your student’s yearbook. Your Lower School passcode is 101495056158615. There is an option to personalize two pages with your student’s favorite photos at NO additional cost. If you start designing the two pages and then decide against completing them, it will automatically revert to a standard yearbook.
Please note, if you have students in both Upper and Lower Schools, you will need a different passcode for the Upper School yearbook. If you have any questions email Yearbook@westshorechristian.org or call 717-737-3550 x134. See the attached PDF (at the bottom of the newsletter) for additional information on how to purchase, customize pages and download app if desired.
