Two-Day Institute on PROCESS ORIENTED GUIDED INQUIRY LEARNING
The POGIL Project's 2-day workshop provides Middle and High School Educators a significant opportunity to obtain professional development and to gain new insights into teaching and learning.
At this workshop, participants will follow a sequence of sessions (tracks) based on their experience with POGIL methodology and their professional development goals. The sequence includes introductory and intermediate tracks:
Introductory track:
- No prior POGIL experience is required
- Experience POGIL methodology
- Learn to facilitate POGIL activities
Intermediate track:
- Previous attendance of at least a 3-hour POGIL workshop required
- Improve facilitation skills
- Introduce POGIL activity structure

About the Workshop:
What is Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL)?
Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning, or POGIL, is a student-centered, group-learning instructional strategy and philosophy developed through research on how students learn best.
The POGIL approach provides an innovative classroom and teaching model that allows students to work together to develop and construct important concepts of science, mathematics, and other disciplines, as well as cultivate lifelong learning skills.
Participants will
- experience a POGIL-based learning environment, analyze activities and understand how guided inquiry is structured in a classroom
- leave with POGIL materials designed to guide students through exploration to construct understanding. Students in POGIL classrooms develop important team work, leadership and analysis skills.
Outcomes:
As a result of attending, participants will:
- Explore the benefits of using POGIL approach to learning
- Experience a POGIL-based learning environment
