Tips from Nursing Students
Other Students say....
- Practice every chance you get! When you practice, you get more comfortable with the types of questions and the format of the exam. You will then find out your strengths and weaknesses and that will help you focus on what needs to be studied.
- Buy a book or a subscription to an NCLEX prep program. The most popular are UWorld and Kaplan.
(Note: Trocaire College Libraries have several NCLEX books for you to use in the library, see last section of this guide.)
- Don't wait until the last minute to study. Take advantage of all the review classes the school offers. Study on your own or with a group. Keep it up until a few days before the exam.
- Studying: Make a schedule and stick to it. Find a place that is not distracting. Don't study with a group that just talks, you need to buckle down and get it done.
- Study higher level questions.
- Be prepared to sit for a long time, so wear something comfortable.
Before the exam:
Days Before:
- Relax.
- Your work is done.
- Don't stress.
- Make sure that you know the EXACT location of the testing place.
- Make sure you have the right ID.
- Read over the procedures that will occur the day of the test, so that you know what will be happening.
- Get a good night sleep the night before.
Day of:
- Eat a good breakfast.
- Give yourself enough time to get to the testing location- don't rush!
