Hopefully you won't be feeling too inundated with communications as we endeavoured to keep you to date with developments this week.
For obvious reasons, as a country we find ourselves yet again in recovery mode and shocked by the dramatic losses so many communities are facing.
Even for those of us who got through with little or no damage personally, many will have connections to friends and family who are facing devastation, hardship and the tragic loss of life that is emerging in the wake of the chaos, which will be part of our national psyche for a long time to come.
As parents, we may wonder what it all means to our children, especially following years of COVID disruption.
From our perspective at school, the good news is that we are always impressed by how quickly children 'bounce' back' to living in the moment and settling into routines. While any disruption to learning is always a concern, it's reassuring to see them back happily learning and playing with friends.
Nonetheless, it's important to acknowledge the concerns or worries some children may have, particularly as they are so attuned to picking up on the anxieties of the trusted adults around them in their life.
The learning for the children is perhaps to understand that feeling worried is a natural, normal part of life that everyone feels at times, and that it's part of how we care for one another.
By encouraging them to articulate these feelings and answer questions in age-appropriate ways, we can help them to develop the resilience everyone needs to deal with challenges. In this way, we can help them to focus on the amazing collective efforts of communities who can and do pull together to find solutions in such remarkable and often heroic ways.
Once again, to any of our families who may be facing difficulty at this time, we encourage you to reach out and let us know if there is any way we can help.
On a brighter note, the Y5 students have Camp to look forward to next week, which is sure to be the perfect silver lining for them to enjoy!

Yummy Apple Stickers - keep collecting!
Last year over 12,367 stickers stickers were collected! The 2023 count has just started so please remember to save your apple stickers as we are only half way to meet last years number!
If you buy your Yummy apples by the bag please note there are sometimes square cut-out labels that say 'Cut out Label' and these count as 10 stickers, or you can cut out the barcode and stick that on, or both! There is a separate sheet for cut-out labels but a blank piece of paper will work just as well.
You can collect stickers year round and drop them to the office.
