Parkdale Elementary - First Six Weeks - 2021/2022
Principal Message
Welcome Back Panthers! I hope you have had a restful and enjoyable summer break. We are excited to have our Panthers back on campus for in-person instruction!
As your principal, it is important to me that our students feel welcomed and excited to be here! Our students are the heart of our school, and we look forward to meeting their academic, social, and emotional needs.
Parkdale has three wildly important goals this year:
- Increase Reading Meets levels in grades 3-5 from 18% to 44%
- Increase Math Meets levels in grades 3-5 from 15% to 46%
- Maintain an overall 97% attendance rate for the campus
I encourage you to bring your student to school everyday so that our students can reach their individual reading, math, and attendance goals.
Throughout the school year, I encourage you to attend parent/teacher conferences, school programs, student academic and extracurricular activities, and school celebrations. Together, we will ensure our students are academically progressing and socially and emotionally developing. Although we remain closed to visitors at this time, we will offer ways to participate with our school community.
Our continued vision is to ensure our students receive exemplary learning opportunities in a safe, nurturing environment. Please feel free to contact me at 254-772-2170 or at lena.ortiz@wacoisd.org to share any questions or concerns. I look forward to better knowing and working with you to build Scholars today and Leaders tomorrow!
Your Parkdale Principal,
Lena Ortiz
Assistant Principal Message
It has been wonderful meeting members of our Parkdale families this week! I look forward to meeting more of you as the year progresses.
On Thursday, the Waco ISD board approved the 2021-2022 Student Code of Conduct. As the campus behavior coordinator, I would encourage each of you to familiarize yourself with this document. It serves as our main point of reference when student conduct concerns arise. This week, I would like to bring your attention to page 8, Standards for Student conduct.
As always, thank you for sharing your students with us!
Mrs. Anverly Laster, Assistant Principal

No Place for Hate Distinction at Parkdale
No Place for Hate
No Place for Hate® initiative provides schools with an organizing framework for combating bias, bullying and hatred, leading to long-term solutions for creating and maintaining a positive climate. Parkdale Elementary is proud to be working toward designation as an Anti-Defamation League "No Place For Hate" campus. Together, we are working on building an inclusive and safe community in which respect is the goal and all students can thrive. We work to empower our community to take a stand against hate and bullying by incorporating new and existing programs under one powerful message. We strive to have a clear, unified message that all students have a place to belong and we practice empathy and kindness during our weekly morning meetings.Mask Up Panthers!
Please help us by reviewing mask expectations with your student:
- Wear your mask properly so that it covers your nose and mouth.
- Store your mask safely so that it does not get lost or dirty.
- Treat your mask kindly so that it does not touch others or break.
It is vitally important for our students to follow these guidelines to ensure student and staff safety on our campus. Thank you for helping us keep our students and staff safe!
