Sherburn Hungate Weekly News - Summer Term - Issue 2

A word from Mr Broom

Firstly, I'd like to say a very well done to our wonderful Year 6 children for their exceptional efforts this week with the SATs. I'm sure they will have done really well and have given their all. They've spent today with Apple Inc. in Leeds, controlling robots with iPads etc and then a spot of lunch at Giraffe. A very well-deserved treat.

Meanwhile, it's been business as usual in every class with some fantastic learning taking place. I've seen over 20 individual children this week who have been to show me their work. It's great to see children with so much pride. I love it!

By now you will have received my letter regarding where I will be based for four days of the week from Monday. If you haven't, then it might come as a surprise. I've been asked to support a school who are in need of much help near Malton. While it's an excellent opportunity for myself, it's also a great opportunity for our wonderful leadership team in school to step up for a short period. I'm sure they'll do a wonderful job and I'll be spending a day each week in Sherburn Hungate right through to the summer when I'll return and Miss Mackay will depart on her maternity leave.

It's gala weekend and I'm looking forward to seeing many of you there.

Best wishes

Mr Broom

Congratulations to Y6 on their 100%. A wonderful achievement, even if it has been SATs week!

Our Academy is 1 Year Old!

This week, our academy (STARMAT) turned one year old. It's incredible to think how quickly this year has gone and the achievements we have made. Martyn Sibley, our CEO, has written a report for all parents which he would very much like you to read. This report is attached below.

Y2 Volunteer Readers Needed

We can't emphasise enough how important it is to read with children. For this reason, we're looking for some parent volunteers who may have an hour to spare to come and read with our Year 2 children. If you think you have the time, please call the school office for further information.

EYFS Incubator Back in School

We're soon to have chicks in our Early Years Setting and the incubator and eggs will be arriving shortly. It's an incredible experience for the children to see. Real learning!

We can only provide these opportunities for our children by asking for help from parents. Our Friends' Association have kindly agreed to fund 50% of the costs, but we are asking for parents to please make a £1 donation per child on ParentPay. All children over the coming weeks will get to share this wonderful learning opportunity.
