News from Mrs. Mankin
Dear Bulldog Families,
I hope this newsletter finds you and your family safe, healthy, and happy. I know that our current situation has surfaced many big emotions (for children and adults), and I am hopeful that you and your family, with the virtual support of others in our community, are finding ways to manage this new way of life. Today Mayor Fadness shared our city's recovery plan. Just as he and his team are planning for next steps, our Hamilton Southeastern Schools team is also planning for different scenarios for the 2020-2021 school year.
The New Britton Team is also planning for our new school year as we continue to provide eLearning experiences to finish out the current year. In the email with this newsletter, you should have received an Intent to Return survey via Skylert. Please complete one survey for each child so that we can start to prepare for the upcoming school year. Thank you for your help with this planning process.
Please be sure to review the FAQ section of our HSE website as this does provide answers to many questions and is continuously updated. I would like to highlight a few points:
- HSE Schools will continue to monitor guidance from state leaders and health officials. A districtwide date for Kindergarten Open House and all school transition activities will be set prior to the start of the 2020-21 school year.
How will my student get his/her yearbook and other school supplies?
- The New Britton Yearbook order forms went home in January and online orders were extended as a result of Covid-19. We have submitted our yearbook to Inter-State Studio and are waiting to hear back regarding an estimated completion date. We will do our best to have our yearbooks for pick-up when state and city guidelines change and we are able to plan some different dates and options for student/family visits to school. We will keep you updated.
Our grade-level team Professional Learning Community work is continuing via the Zoom teleconferencing tool. Their focus is on collaboration and resource sharing to support our students as their learning has changed to this eLearning format. Please continue to communicate with your child's teacher if his/her needs are not being met. We will do our best to partner with you in addressing your child's learning needs.
Our priority is to make positive connections and help support your student's social-emotional needs during this time! Teachers have identified priority standards to cover; however, they understand the importance of students feeling safe and healthy in order to learn. As always, thank you for partnering with us in education! Stay healthy and safe.
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin

Helpful Resources from Mrs. Leiner - 2nd Step
During the 2019-2020 school year our students have been actively participating in the Second Step program which is our Social Emotional Learning curriculum which has been taught weekly in the classroom setting. This curriculum focuses on promoting and teaching social, emotional, and academic success. The four units include: Skills for Learning, Empathy, Emotional Management and Problem Solving. These are all vital learning skills now more than ever.
This is a difficult time for our students and families and Second Step has provided New On-Demand, Teacher-Led Lessons and Videos along with free resources for families to access Free of Charge. The New On-Demand lessons are in the 3rd section of this link and are taught by Second Step teachers and counselors.
Please visit this link which outlines all the resources and tools Second Step is providing to teachers and families. Please take a look at some of these free lessons for your family.

We hope that these resources are helpful to you and your child. If you have additional questions or concerns, please reach out to Mrs. Leiner, NBE School Counselor.
