Student Council Elections
by Sam G.
Recently, our principal Dr. Hensley has introduced student council elections to our school. Each grade will be sending A President, a Vice-President, Senators, Representatives, and a Judge that is nominated by the President , who has to be approved by the Senate. Each grade in our school is running different types of races. The most highly contested races are in middle school.
The sixth grade has already done their Representative and Senate races. The Presidential candidates have running mates, running as their Vice-President.
The candidates are (in President then Vice-President order):
Sadie D. and Elijah S.
Jaina B. and Jayden C.
Xeriahn C.and JoJo J.
Nolan C. and Carson B.
The winners for Senator and Representative are:
Senator:
Maxwell J.
Lillian W.
Representative:
Helen A.
Eli M.
It is safe to say that the seventh grade is holding the highest contested race in the building. This is based on the insane amount of candidates running. The teachers decided to have one winner for Senator and Representative per homeroom, allowing three candidates per homeroom. Then there is one Presidential candidate per homeroom. Also, the runner-up for the Presidential race will become the Vice-President.
The candidates are:
President:
Sam C. - Mrs. Rexroat
Mia K. - Mrs. Best
Shelby M. - Ms. Thomas

The eighth grade has made their election quite different from any other grade. Student's that wanted to be a candidate had to fill out a nomination form, get their grades checked, and in addition to that, get a teacher recommendation. However, there were not enough nominees to have a preliminary election.
The candidates are:
President:
Lilly E.
Steven M.
Khloe S.
Campbell S.
Ella S.
Senator:
Rebecca V.
Brooklyn T.
Audrey G.
Representative:
Makiya M.

Gift Suggestions for Your Children
by Allena P.
Christmas is quickly approaching. There is less than a month before Christmas is here! If you are clueless about what you should get your child for Christmas then you are in the right place. People are different and may not want what I suggest but this is just from what I’ve heard people would like for Christmas.
I
have noticed that a lot of middle school girls want Polaroid cameras. I know many people that want a polaroid camera but wait to ask at Christmas because they are pretty expensive. Even if your child has a Polaroid you could buy them more film for it. Film for the cameras is also pretty expensive so that would be a good gift for them. Polaroids are useful for many things and it allows you to keep many memories. In my opinion, I like to have pictures that are not only on my phone and I like to make memory boxes for certain events, so maybe a Polaroid camera would be a good gift to give your child.
A good gift to give your middle and elementary school boy would be a Nintendo Switch. A Nintendo Switch is a good gift to give your child because if your child likes to play games then this would be a great thing that they could take on the go. It is also on the best seller list on Amazon. If your child ever wants to play games anywhere the Nintendo Switch is the next best thing.
If you have a girl that is in elementary maybe they would like Hatchimals for Christmas. Hatchimals have been popular for many years and it doesn’t look like the craze is going to end anytime soon. Hatchimals are toys that come in an egg and you hatch it on your own. After they are hatched you can interact with them and play with them. They are kind of like Furbies that are in an egg and that look a little different. This might be great for your young child as a Christmas gift.
I hope this helped you figure out what to get your child for Christmas or at least give you an idea of what to get. These gifts are popular gifts that many like and I hope that if you decide you will get your child this they will love them.
Decorating Tips
by Jaleia H.
Christmas is coming!!! Christmas is coming!!! Time to get in the Christmas spirit. But how? Decorating for Christmas is a widely held tradition for all of those who celebrate the holiday. As a Christmas lover myself, decorating must be done right. Here are some tips and tricks to have the best-decorated house in your neighborhood.
Keep with the same style! Whether you like colorful lights or sticking to 1 or 2 colors, keep it same across the board. You want your decorations to have a nice flow and to coordinate.
Be safe! When putting up lights or placing an ornament or tree topper on the top of your tree, have someone with you to make sure you don’t fall and hurt yourself. Falling off of a ladder could result in a serious injury.
Have fun! Kick off your shoes, turn on some music, bake some cookies. Christmas decorating should be fun and relaxing, not stressful. Get into the Christmas spirit and enjoy some time to yourself or with your family.
Christmas is a time to spend with family and friends. Add a little touch to the fun by decorating your house for Christmas right!

How Pollution Has an Impact on Climate
By: Margaret W.
Recently, we have had very cold weather and did not get enough of actual fall weather. We are still in the fall season but we are facing winter weather and have been facing winter weather since the third week of Fall. We had weather in 70 degrees, then, all of a sudden, we started having weather in the mid 40 degrees. This was a very surprising thing but not many people know what could have caused this. But, pollution could be the source of this quick climate change.
Air pollution causes can cause global warming to come faster or slower, it depends on the type of air pollution. Carbon dioxide is a main cause of global warming before black carbon and methane. Air pollution can cause small climate change too. For example, if there is lots of air pollution in the air, it can block out the sun rays and temperature can drop. Also, Beijing, China, which is a very air-polluted city, has fairly low temperatures, probably due to air pollution.
Kentucky ranks first in toxic air pollution nationwide. Kentucky’s power plants have emitted 40 million pounds of toxic air pollution into the air. Kentucky has had very weird weather lately and it could be because our air is extremely polluted. The second-worst state on this list was Ohio, they are also experiencing some climate changes and weather problems. For instance, Thursday's high temperature was 37 F and Friday's high temperature is 53 F.
The fact that the top two most air-polluted states and other air-polluted places are all facing climate changes is interesting. All of these places have high-levels of air pollution which is most likely the reason why they have climate changes. Since many people have been complaining about how cold it is and how we should have had more than two weeks of Fall, putting an end to polluting our environment would help. If we stopped polluting and damaging our environment, we would not be facing extremely cold weather. Right now, we could be having weather in the 50s or 60 degrees.

Book Review: Cath Crowley's Words in Deep Blue
Henry and Rachel have been friends for ten years, but when Rachel moved to Sea Ridge, their friendship weakened. Rachel lost her brother, Cal, along with her old self. Henry found out that his girlfriend doesn’t actually love him. When Rachel moves back to Gracetown and starts to work at Henry’s family’s bookshop, Howling Books, they try to rekindle the flame of their friendship but end up finding something more.
Along with the main story of Rachel and Henry in Words in Deep Blue, there were the side stories of George and Cal, George and Martin, and Amy and Henry, which all fit in perfectly with the main story, and didn’t distract from Henry and Rachel. Because much of the story takes place in the bookstore, the author, Cath Crowley, was able to tell the some of the side stories in a unique format. George and Cal got to know each other through letters in the Letter Library, a place where anyone could leave notes in books for other people to read. George and Martin became friends through the letters as well. Amy and Henry's relationship was the obstacle that Henry helped to realize that he was meant to be with Rachel.
The author's use of the Letter Library created a format that gave the story an interesting twist. Through the letters, we got to know the characters better than we would have without them. Whether they were letters left by the characters in the book or by random readers, they gave us an inside look into what people think about while they read.
Words in Deep Blue was much like a journey. A journey from grief and tragedy. A journey to find old friendship. A journey to find love. Rachel was overcome by grief from the death of her brother, Cal, and Henry has just found out that the “love of this life” didn’t actually love him. This book dealt with the subjects of grief, love, and friendship so well, that it was like you were living along with Henry and Rachel as they were experiencing them.
I recommend this book for fans of Rainbow Rowell and John Green. Anyone who likes books about people who enjoy reading, or geeky characters, would find this book relevant and meaningful. People who are grieving might find this book comforting as well. I gave Words in Deep Blue a five-star rating because it’s funny, interesting, and thought-provoking.
Movie Review: The Crimes of Grindelwald
by Lucy S.
I currently went to see Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. I personally really liked it although, it confused me a lot. I did some extra research on it, and Creedence Barebone is Aurelius Dumbledore, Dumbledore’s brother, making it confusing for many Harry Potter fans, like myself. He does not have the same mother, but the same father, so the theory got one thing right about Albus Dumbledore, the character we all know and (mostly) love. Don’t be concerned when you hear Dumbledore is gay, JK Rowling announced it a few years ago. The reason he won’t fight Grindelwald is because of an unbreakable vow, made after his sister, Ariana’s, death. Aurelius was never mentioned, or even known about, until this movie, which makes me believe that Dumbledore never knew about his long-lost brother, or will ever know. Also, Nagini is on the good side? That confused me. I guess she didn’t have a choice to be one of Voldemort’s Horcruxes, so my theory is she turned evil after she was killed. But, enough about this. I honestly give this movie a 4.5 out of 5, the other half star wasn’t there because of all the confusion, which kind of made it better. So, to conclude this review I definitely recommend you watch this movie but watch the first one first!
Dear Reptile/Robot,
Are you a reptile or robot that struggles to converse with the humans of this world? Well this is the place for you! I get it... taking over the world can be hard when you don't understand how to walk straight or show emotions. Well follow these three steps: nod your head yes to everything and smile, remember to blink and most of all wear clothes.
To begin, nod and smile. Now I hear you telepathically asking me, “Why should I do that?” Well because humans like it when they talk, not you. The more you “talk” to them they will get close to you then you can get in the inside and take over. Muhahahahah!
Secondly, remember to blink. Blinking is the unspoken rule of humans back on planet Mars. The little ones would say it how they stay alive. Back on topic, if you don't blink the humans will suspect something and turn on you and eat you.
Finally, wear clothes because the humans don't like bodies! The will scream and run if don't wear clothes. And make sure they are cool looking so the humans will feel invited to talk to you.
To close, follow these three steps node your head yes to everything and smile, remember to blink and most of all wear clothes.
Sincerely,
Luke S.

Advice from Miss Knows a Lot and Miss Helping Hands
Dear Mrs. Know-It-All,
I really like this girl and she likes me, but she is in a relationship and doesn't want it to end, but wants to date us both. Please help!!!!
Sincerely,
Anonymous
Dear Anonymous,
I don’t think this okay. First of all, all this girl is going to do is hurt your feelings, because if she can't leave her significant other for you, she must not like that this much. I personally think that you should move on because many other girls might like you, who are not in a relationship. Overall, next time a girl likes you,you should make sure she is not taken because nobody likes somebody that steals peoples' girls.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Know-It-All
Dear Mrs. Know-It-All,
I am outgrowing my friends. What should I do?
Sincerely,
Anonymous
Dear Anonymous,
My best advice is to stay friends with your old friends, while finding yourself some new friends. Try finding friends that do stuff that you like to do, such as friends that play a sport you play, are in an elective you're in, or a club your part of. These friends can relate to you on a personal level that your old friends may not be able to relate to you on, as you have grown out of your old ways. Best of luck!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Know-It-All,
