MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you to all community members for a positive start to Term 3. We have some new students and families starting at Whitford Catholic Primary School this term and it has been great to see them being welcomed into our community. If you see someone new in the grounds, please introduce yourself and make them feel welcome.
I hope everyone had the opportunity to have a break and enjoy time with family and friends over the holidays. The week after the holidays is always the hardest for students as we re-establish routines ready for a new term. It is important that, at this time, we maintain patience and understand that it is difficult for children to make transitions quickly. The way we support children around this will make them more willing to get back into the term, make them feel better about themselves and their school and build a trusting family relationship where children feel they will be assisted to get back on track. Be clear about expectations but be supportive at the same time.
The 25th July is World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. A study which examined the role grandparents play in the development of children, confirmed that grandparents are key to grandchildren’s happiness! The results found the emotional relationship between grandparents and their grandchildren can significantly affect the children’s academic, psychological, and social development. When grandparents are involved in their grandchildren’s lives, children are not only more social but also more engaged in school. Researchers also noted children were more likely to develop skills essential for social development, such as showing care, compassion and kindness for people who are not part of their inner circles. The study concluded that children have a higher level of self-confidence when grandparents give more affection. Such emotional closeness has long-term positive impacts on children’s lives, including the value children derive from giving and receiving care from another person. We would like to thank the grandparents in our community for the role you play in our students’ lives and how this helps our mission to educate the whole child at Whitford Catholic Primary School.
NAIDOC Week occurred over the school holidays from 4th July to 11th July. The theme was “Heal country, heal our nation”. This emphasises the deep respect and connection that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have with country and their yearning for reconciliation. NAIDOC Week celebrations are held to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. More information is available on the following website: https://www.naidoc.org.au/
From Term 3, we are offering an additional day in our Pre-Kindy program staffed by Mrs Jessica McArtney and Mrs Leonie Durante. The program now runs on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Families are able to enrol their children for one, two or three days. Please contact the office for enrolment enquiries. We are currently also interviewing for places for Kindy 2023. If your child is eligible to start Kindy in 2023, please complete an application form to ensure you do not miss out.
Best wishes and God bless

SCHOOL BANKING
School Banking is back every Tuesday & it is a great way to practice regular savings.
Remember, Tuesday is School Banking Day and students can bring in their weekly deposit to the doggy deposit box outside school reception.
Saving regularly is an important habit to get into, whether you're saving a little or a lot. Remember, there is no minimum deposit with School Banking, you can send as little as 5c per week in, saving regularly is what is important.
For every deposit made at school, students will receive a Dollarmites token. Once students have individually collected 10 tokens they can redeem them for a School Banking reward item.
School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a regular savers contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an annual contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year. For more information about contribution payments, visit www.commbank.com.au/sbinfo.
If your child has lost their book, please contact your School Banking Co-ordinator for a replacement or visit any Commonwealth Bank branch.
Thank you for supporting the School Banking program at WCPS. We would also like to thank the wonderful parents who volunteer as our School Banking Co-ordinators and process our banking every week.
If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2021 School Banking program information pack from the school office or visit www.commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
