The Berlin Wall Now vs Then
The Iron Curtain?
The Berlin Wall
The Berlin Wall split East and West Berlin in half. People struggled because many lost there jobs and if they were employed on the West and had to travel to the East. For the West side of Berlin it was more positive but they could not see there family's and friends (Timelifebooks). People always tried to get over the wall, sometimes they gathered cloth and made a hot air ballon. The Berlin Wall was up for 23 years and was 96 miles long.
Berlin Now
Berlin is the biggest city in Germany and it has a population of 3.5 million. Berlin is one of the 16 states in Germany. The Berlin Wall Memorial was made so people did not forget about the Berlin Wall. Berlin has a different image because it got more modern by more tall buildings and shops. Berlin has lots of big company's and BMW (The car company) builds motorcycles there.
Berlin Then
Berlin during the wall it had a population of 1.9 million. After World War II Germany was divided and East Berlin and the West side of Berlin was in control of West Germany. Berlin was at down point because it was just after World War II and it was during the Berlin Wall. During the Berlin Wall many East Germans had recurring dreams about flying over the wall but when it was down they stopped having the dreams. People often looked through small holes in the wall to see what the other side was like.
