Information/Reminders
Faculty Meeting This Friday (2/3):
We will have a faculty meeting this coming Friday in the CMS Media Center beginning at 7:15am. We will be discussing ILEARN Testing.
Club Photos:
Due to the two-hour delay last Friday (1/27), Club photos will be rescheduled. The new date will be sent out once it is confirmed. Stay tuned.
Black History Month:
In an email last Friday, Ms. Smejkal provide you with activities to assist in the celebration of Black History Month. These activities are mandatory and will need to be conducted in your Spartan Prides during the month of February. Thanks for your help with this!
Snow Make-up Day - February 20:
Due to our snow day last week, we have now used up one of our two snow make-up days for the school year. Therefore, we will be in attendance at school on February 20th. Our other snow make-up day is scheduled for April 10. If we go beyond that day, then we will begin to utilize E-learning days.
Teaching Assistant Vacancy:
We are still in need of a teaching assistant, so if know of someone who might be interested in that position, please have them contact me or have them fill out the online application located on the school corporation's Human Resources website.
February's Character Strong Theme and Focus Word:
● Teamwork: recognizing individual strengths and differences to expand our perspectives and work more effectively.
● Focus Word - Commitment - a willingness to practice and fulfill your obligations or goals even when it is challenging or you don’t feel like it.
● Resources:
○ Character Dares https://curriculum.characterstrong.com/csgym/characterdares/student?trait=commitment
○ Videos with Reflection Questions: https://curriculum.characterstrong.com/csgym/video-library?tag=commitment
Random Moment Time Study (RMTS):
This is just a reminder that from time to time you might receive an email from a source called "IN MAC RMTS." This email is asking you to participate in a Random Moment Time Study. Please be reminded that this is a mandatory activity that you need to take part in because it is tied to the Federal government. I have personally received two of these emails recently, so please make sure to participate if you happen to receive one.
REMINDERS:
Safety Reminder:
Please make sure that your classroom doors remain locked in the event we need to go to a lockdown. This is a corporation-wide expectation.
Student Handbook Committee:
It will soon be time to make changes to the student handbook. If you would like to serve on the student handbook committee, please let Mr. Morey know.
Domain 3 Classroom Visits:
Don't forget that you were given a blue Domain 3 Classroom Visits log sheet earlier in the school year. If you have not had time to visit other colleagues' classrooms, you might make an effort to to do so. These will need to be turned in to your primary evaluator in the Spring. Make sure to include them in your Domain 3 documentation.
Grades Per Week:
Please make sure that you record at least one grade each week in your grade book for all of your classes.
Character Strong
Appreciation/Congratulations
It was a great day for CMS singers at Solo & Ensemble Contest on Saturday, January 28th! All four large ensembles earned the Gold Rating! The Guys Ensemble earned a perfect score, and two other ensembles were one point from a perfect score! Nine soloists earned the Gold rating, and one soloist earned the Silver rating from an extremely difficult judge. Mrs. Clifford is very proud of the way everyone performed and conducted themselves. Great job, everyone!
Self-Care
This week's focus from 180 Days of Self-Care For Busy Educators is Orderliness.
Bestselling author Gretchen Rubin asserted that "For most people, an orderly environment helps them feel more energetic, more creative, and more cheerful" (p. 88). Does this describe you? How do you feel when your desk is a mess or your house if filled with clutter? Our author suggests that we all employ what she terms as "The One-Minute Rule." That means "if you can do it in one minute or less, you must do it." (p. 88). This can include simple tasks such as hanging up your coat, putting shoes in the closet, sorting the mail, putting a dish in the dishwasher, clearing off your desk, watering plants, or cleaning out the coffee mug before leaving for the day (p.88).
Here is your challenge for this week:
Employ the One-Minute Rule. If you can accomplish a task in one minute or less, you must do it.
At the end of the week reflect upon:
Which options did you choose and why?
Did implementation of the Rule provide you with a sense of calm?
What is the status of your clutter at work and at home?
How can you continue to make the One-Minute Rule part of your life?
