Communication Binders
In their communication binders today, I taped a small piece of paper that has a website listed on the bottom, a user name, and a password. Once I get it up and running, your child can go to the site listed (on a computer or iPad), enter in their user name and password, and work on activities to help support the reading skills we are working on at school as well as read the books we are reading in our small reading groups. I do not have anything "assigned" to them yet, but will this next week. Please put this paper in a safe spot at home where you can refer back to it, otherwise leave it taped in the front cover of their binder and I will attach it there more securely on Monday. Once they've logged in once, they shouldn't need to again unless you have another child at home using the same resource.
Reading/Daily 5
We continued to work on our newest sight word, "and", this week as well as writing and identifying the letter "Nn". The kindergarten students read a couple of new stories to help them work on sounding out unfamiliar CVC words. We also practiced sounding out and writing these words as well. For the 100th day of school, each student wrote a "bucket" list of something that they really wanted to do or accomplish in their lifetime. We then paired their writing with a portrait of themselves as 100 year olds.
Keep reading for Book It! calendars. I have sent a February recording sheet home in the kids' binders today so that you will have them for the 1st of the month, which is Wednesday.
Math
We have moved on from graphs and tables, which the students really did well with, and started talking about parts and wholes. The students identified shapes that were split into equal parts and shapes/objects that showed a line of symmetry. Please continue to practice number identification (1-31 is the Kindergarten standard set by the state, however feel free to go higher if your child is able to!), writing those numbers, and putting them in order at home.
Social Studies
The Kindergarten students were able to experience a globe this week. Many were fascinated by it and enjoyed finding the United States and Minnesota. They were also surprised to see how much of our planet if covered in water! The weather and seasons were also topics of discussion in Social Studies this week.
