This weeks BUZZ

News from the week of September 13, 2019

Our first full week....

We are concluding our first full week and we have already accomplished so much! It's been a great transition back to school for both students and teachers. Students have been busy learning about school routines, policies, classroom expectations, and procedures. Our goal this year is to continue providing the best education in a nurturing and caring environment built on our Catholic Faith. Students are learning about accountability, and respect. We are all individual with unique qualities, and we come together as one big SAS Family! (Like a puzzle) Students and teachers are excited for the upcoming school year and I am too!

BOK has begun

BOK is a program that gets students moving. It's a fun way to start the day!

No sign-ups necessary. Students are invited to attend any week they can.

Students participate in their normal uniforms for that day, but they are required to have gym sneakers to change into.

Grades 4-8: Tuesdays, 7:50-8:30am

Grades K-3: Thursdays, 7:50-8:30am

St. Anna's is an Allergy Friendly School

Please keep in mind - as you plan snacks, birthday treats, and classroom parties - that St. Anna's is an Allergy Friendly School. Double-check with your students' teacher or room parent to ensure that we are creating a safe, inclusive environment for all students.

Birthday Celebrations

One of our favorite things to do is to celebrate our students' birthdays! Students can come to school out of uniform on their birthday (or for our summer birthdays - their HALF birthday).

Many students bring cupcakes to school to celebrate with their classmates. Have you thought about changing it up this year? There are also other non-sweet treats that students can bring to school to celebrate - Kids love popsicles, fruit, or even non food items such as stickers, pencils, dollar store goodies, etc.

BACK TO SCHOOL FORMS

If you have not taken the time to fill out the following forms, please take a few minutes now to do so. These forms encompass many important facets of school life for both you and your students.

If you need hard copies of anything, please contact the office to have them sent home.

The titles below are links to the relevant documents, and the link to the Acknowledgment form is at the bottom.

Student Media Release Form

Sometimes, we take photographs or videos of students - either at school or when they are involved in organized activities away from school. These events include field trips, service projects, and other events where our school is participating, such as sporting events. We may use these images of children in our prospectus or in other printed publications, as well as on our school and/or teacher websites or on school displays.

Due to the increased use of school/teacher websites, we are ensuring we have up-to-date photograph consent forms in place for all our students. This form explains our policy for use of student images in further detail. Please note, consent forms are required for each child, not for each family.

Please make sure you a "yes" or "no" for each section. If a choice is NOT made, we will assume the answer is "yes".

Nurse Notes:

Don't forget to have your updated physicals and immunization records on file in the nurse's office. All new students MUST have these on file before starting school.

You can drop epi pens & inhalers off with correct paperwork this week.

ALL students who will participate in a sport (Cross Country, Cheerleading, Basketball) MUST have a physical on file giving them permission to participate in sports. Students will not be allowed to practice until we have the appropriate physical on file.

Mrs. Katrina Couture is our school nurse. She works for the Leominster Department of Public Health and is at St. Anna School daily from 11:40-12:40. We are also fortunate to have retired nurse Mrs. Maryanne Capistrano volunteer in the health office daily as well.

St. Anna's Women's Bible Study

Acts of The Apostles

Acts is the story of how a few Christians empowered by the Holy Spirit were chosen to bring Christ and the Good News to the ends of the earth. They faced secular forces, internal strife and hostile crowds, and despite all of this, they brought the kingdom of God to a broken world and the love of God to the hearts of all.

The study begins Friday, Sept. 13 and runs throughout the school year. We will meet in the Church Hall from 9-11 on Friday mornings when school is in session.

Please contact Pascale Traylor for registration information at mptraylor@gmail.com, or 978-870-7683

Cool Kids Cash Club

DON’T FORGET TO OPEN YOUR ACCOUNT THIS FALL.....
This program will allow students to being banking at school. They will learn the importance of saving and will be able to make deposits into their savings account twice a month. This is an easy and terrific way to start saving NOW for middle school field trips! Each year the 6th graders attend Nature’s Classroom at a cost of around $600. The Washington DC trip is held every other year so your child would have the opportunity to attend DC as either a 7th or 8th grader. This trip costs around $1000. If you being saving NOW, as early as preschool or Kindergarten, your child could easily save enough money to cover both of these trips by the time they become a middle school student!
Students will also learn skills about keeping a savings account pass book and other financial skills that are necessary to become financially responsible adults.
Parents who are interested in having their child participate in this program, will need to open their child’s account at Fidelity and then on-going deposits can be made conveniently at school.
Please feel free to stop in at either Fidelity branch in Leominster to open your account. Please let them know it is for St. Anna’s Cool Cash Club and/or email and let me know you’ve opened an account for your child so I can let you know when banking at school will begin.
If you have questions about the program, please contact Ruby Vargas from Fidelity Bank at rvargas@fidelitybankonline.com or 978-353-2701

Homework Club is back! 3:15-4:30 Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays on full school days. Students will go to the supervising teacher's classroom to work on their homework. The teacher will help them if needed. Students will have access to their chromebooks. Students can get picked up at 4:30 or go to extended care. Our intention is to give students a quiet space to do their homework after school. This will be beneficial to those that usually go to extended care and want to finish their homework before playing and for those that might need a little more support and structure to complete their homework. Students need to let their teacher know during attendance if they are staying after for homework club or let Mrs. Priddy know at lunch time. We need to make sure everyone has a ride home. Students who are signed up to go to Homework Club need to STAY at homework club until their ride arrives unless they are also signed up to go to Extended Care following Homework Club.
