Sussex Ave: News That You Can Use
Principal's Corner
Dear Sussex Students, Parents and Guardians,
Just when I think we've outdone ourselves, another activity takes place and I am amazed! This week I had the pleasure of watching alongside the 3rd graders a presentation/demonstration given by the Morris Township Fire Department. The presentation/demonstration was engaging for the students and resulted in students asking very thoughtful questions. Special thanks to Ms. Ruta for scheduling such a meaningful event.
On June 5th, Ms. Marietta Scorsune conducted an eye opening presentation at Sussex titled "Vaping, The New Look of Nicotine Addiction." The presentation was very informative and
The HSA sponsored the Rocks and Mineral Assembly for our third graders. Students had a wonderful time learning all about rocks and minerals. They even had the opportunity to conduct their own "dig" to look for different fossils and rocks. This was such a fun and hands-on learning experience. Thank you to all for bringing this experience to our students.
The 1st ever Sussex Avenue Book Swap was a huge success! The students were so excited to bring in their books and trade them in for "new" books to read. Every student had the opportunity to take at least one "new" book home for the summer. I look forward to continuing this in the upcoming years.
The 5th Grade Residency began this week. BJ Ward came to Sussex and conducted a whole grade assembly and then began his breakout sessions with each classroom. I had the privilege to sit in on one of his classes and I was very impressed by his dynamic, engaging presence and teaching style. He connected with the students and had them hooked instantly. The writing the students produced in this one session was powerful. I had a hard time pulling myself away!
Last but certainly not least, there was field day!!! Thank you to the many volunteers both at the event and those that helped prep for the event behind the scenes. This truly was a whole community; both home and school coming together to host an extraordinary day. The weather could not have been more beautiful. This was so much fun and something I know students will remember long after their days come to an end at Sussex! A special thanks goes out to Mrs. Mohrle for continuously running field day for so many years, we are so grateful!!!
Ten day to go and so many memories still to make! Have a wonderful week!

Important Reminder
All students with injuries must have a note from a healthcare provider in order for them to to participate in gym or recess. We will not accept notes from parents.
If your healthcare provider does not write/require a separate clearance note after an injury is healed, please request one. It is much more difficult to go back and get one later on. Please contact Ms. Ruta if you have any questions regarding this.
