Books Bring Me Joy!
Hello Patriots and families!
October was filled with lots of book JOY! We has our first book fair of the year and it was super successful! We have studied Digital Citizenship and learned how to balance our time online and how to be safe while using the internet. First graders also taught our Kindergarteners how to use shelf markers and choose books in the Everybody (picture book) Section.
Makerspace activities have been very popular! This month, we added new building tools such as Kid K'Nex and Bristle Blocks. We learned a little about gears as well.
I am thankful for you and all the ways that you support me and the BPES library! Thank you for reading with your children and instilling a love of learning in them!
November Blessings!

Reading Bingo Blackout
Reading Bingo is an optional reading incentive program designed to motivate and reward students for reading a variety of books. Red Reading Bingo cards were given out in May and also offered to students during their first library visits of the year. If you don't have one yet, stop by the library to pick up yours today! We've had several students already complete the program but it's never too late to start.

Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books is a reading incentive program designed to improve reading comprehension and enthusiasm for reading using a fun and unique competition format. Participants are given a reading list of ten books and challenged to read as many books on the list as possible within a four to six-month timeframe. Students will compete in teams to determine their knowledge and understanding of the books. This year’s books have been carefully selected to include a variety of genres, reading levels, and themes. This assortment of Texas Bluebonnet Award nominees, KISD Best Reads List, and other books provides a selection to appeal to reluctant as well as enthusiastic and mature readers. All Battle of the Books selections are available for check out through the school library.
We had EIGHTY students sign up for Battle of the books this year! Our meetings have started and are held during grade level lunch times. Students eat in the library and have book discussions. Later, students will take a quiz to determine if they want to continue with the competition and teams will be assigned. After teams have been made, students will meet before school once a week. A campus battle determines school winners and the winning teams from BPES will compete in a district competition in the spring. We tied for first place last year and would love to bring home another trophy!
