Learning and Working @ Home
Glen and I recorded the video explaining the Distance Learning overview. We will get that to you as soon as it has been finalized, so you have it for your staff meetings next week. Our team is also working to get all video tutorials finalized. We will publish those links on Monday for all teachers. Later in the week, we will share additional dates when Zoom Rooms will be available for more tutorials.
I hope you take time for yourself this weekend. Enjoy some fresh air, some family time, or some quiet free time. Or, for those of you going stir-crazy, enjoy some loud dance parties! I've scheduled a FaceTime dance party with my 5 and 7 year old nephews and some walks with friends, where we are 6 feet apart, but enjoy time together in nature!

Know My Story/ Know Our Story -- 5 Facts about Us
Sanjana Bryant, TOSA and IB Coordinator at Ocean Knoll
I was born in India and moved to the United States when I was 12. My parents left very comfortable lives to move here so my brother and I could have a better education and more opportunities. The sheer enormousness of that sacrifice becomes more clear to me every single day. I am constantly in awe of the selfless things parents will do for their kids.
I got married twice during the same weekend, to the same person. My husband and I tried so hard to have a fusion wedding in order to cut down on costs and be practical. But what became clear during the process was that the parts that were being left out were those that held true significance to us and our cultures. Hence an Indian wedding on Saturday and a white dress wedding (at Quail Gardens) on Sunday. Was it stressful? Yes. Was it worth it? Yes.
I have two boys, 10 and 7, who are as different as night and day. One is slower and more deliberate, cautious and anxious. He seems aloof, but is watching and processing everything on a deep level. The other carries a frenetic energy and wants to do all the things, all the time. He is the one who plays school when he is home sick. What they have in common is a deep connection to their sibling, incredible empathy for everyone around them, and a natural curiosity about how the world works and why it is how it is. I carry that with me as a teacher everyday- our students might present in very different ways, but they are all looking for meaningful connections with those around them and to what they are learning.
One of our most favorite family traditions is celebrating the Indian festival of colors, Holi, at our house every year. We invite our friends over and throw colored chalk on each other. The adults and the kids both enjoy it so much it is often hard to tell who had more fun. =)
Crocheting is my jam. I taught myself how to crochet from Youtube when my oldest was little and would nap for hours on end. I love crocheting beanies for friends and family and donating the proceeds to charity. The creative side of me loves making something tangible, the computational thinker side of me loves uncovering the hidden math involved, and the late night snacker appreciates that my hands are too busy to snack.
