The Patrick Parent Post
September 2018
Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
The beginning of fall brings excitement at Patrick! It is time for our annual fund raiser, the PES Derby and Field Day. In an effort to provide better communication to our families, we are raising money for a new, electronic sign.
This year our Derby theme is The Patrick Olympic Games. On September 28th, students attended the opening ceremonies with their class. Each class chose a country to represent. Students watched a highlight reel of our very own Mrs. Gail Devers, three-time Olympic Gold Medalist. We watched her be gracious and exemplify good sportsmanship in victory and defeat. It was a wonderful lesson and exciting afternoon to kick off our fund raiser!
Parents are welcome to join us for the PES Olympics and Derby on Oct 18 (K-2) and Oct. 19 (3-5). Please follow our regular check in procedures in the front office. All visitors must wear a visitor badge. We love having our parents volunteer and cheer for our students!
October also brings parent-teacher conferences. We believe a strong partnership between home and school helps students reach their greatest potential. Soon, you will receive information on how to schedule a conference electronically from your child's teacher. We look forward to talking with you about your child's strengths and areas for growth. Thank you in advance for making conferences a priority.
Thank you for all you do to support Patrick Elementary!
Sincerely,
Stephanie Stewart, Principal
Congratulations and Happy Retirement to Mrs. Cindy Weisenberger! Mrs. Weisenberger has given 30 Years of Dedicated Service to Gwinnett County Public Schools.
Congratulations to Our 2018-2019 Patrick Elementary School Teacher of the Year: Mrs. Jennifer Burel. She is also a Top 25 Finalist for Gwinnett County Teacher of the Year!
The Importance of Being at School Everyday
According to the Georgia DOE “Data indicates that missing more than five days of school each year, regardless of the cause, begins to impact student academic performance and starts shaping attitudes about school.” Good daily school attendance aligns with our vision, mission and goals for our students therefor please let us work as a team to encourage the best daily attendance possible. Let us know if your child is struggling with health, social or emotional issues impacting their attendance and academics. According to www.attendanceworks.org “Chronic absenteeism in kindergarten, and even preK, can predict lower test scores, poor attendance and retention in later grades, especially if the problem persists for more than a year.” Student who come to school consistently report feeling more connected to their peers and community, develop social skills and friendships, and are more likely to graduate.
