Weekly Happenings at Southeastern Elementary
Principal's Postings
Welcome to the November 1, 2019, edition of Southeastern Scene.
Dear Southeastern Families:
It is our vision to build our learning community with our teachers, students and families. When we collaborate together as a learning community, we help promote a more positive learning environment for our students. One way we do this is through positive language development to promote better awareness. Please see the example below of one way we will use dialogue here at school to help our students become problem solvers. We are sharing with you so that you may promote problem solving in the same way outside of school.
Yours in education,
Mrs. Chastain

Veteran's Day Open House
One of our values at Southeastern Elementary is building community and relationships. In this spirit, Southeastern Elementary will be hosting an open house for Veterans in our community on Nov. 11. We would like to invite current SES families to reach out to Veterans in their families and our greater community and invite them to join you at the Veteran’s Day Open House on Nov. 11th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.
This event is our way of saying "thank you" to Veterans in our school community by welcoming them to spend a special evening with loved ones and friends. The evening will be a casual event with opportunities to participate in a drum circle facilitated by Bongo Boy, participate in open art activities hosted by SES staff, an opportunity to meet local author and Marine Veteran Josh Bleill and visit special exhibits of student work focused on honoring our Veterans. We look forward to sharing our community with you.
Veteran's Service Project
Mrs. Wolf's class is collecting left over Halloween candy and supplies to send to deployed heroes! If you have candy you want out of your house, send it bagged to school with your child on Monday, November 4 or Tuesday, November 5th.
We are also collecting small bottles of shampoo, soap, foot powder, chapstick, gum, sunscreen, playing cards, and mechanical pencils.
Thanks for helping put a smile on someone's face that is protecting and serving our country.

Specials Teacher Spotlight
Hello! My name is Dana Jones and I am the new Global Studies teacher here at Southeastern Elementary. Previously I taught for 9 years as an elementary general education teacher within the Indianapolis Public Schools district, Warren Township, and Frankfort school district. The past 3 years I worked at Conner Prairie as the manager of the education department. I have 2 kids. My son is a 1st grader at New Britton Elementary and my daughter is 2.5 years old. I am very excited to have joined the Southeastern Explorers team and to help the students view our world through a global lens and start thinking about what their role is in a global society. In my free time I love to take photos and have a small photography business I also run. You can follow our learning in the Global Studies lab on Twitter, @SESGlobalStudy.
