Raba Rattlin' Rattler
March 2019 Edition
Principal's Note
Wow, Spring Break (March 11-15) is almost here! The faculty and students are working hard and having fun! I would like to thank the many parents who attended our February special events: PTA meeting, 2nd-grade performance, STUCO/PTA Raba Family Dance Night and STREAM Family Night. All of the events were a huge success thanks to the support we get from our community.
Our Festival of Nations last year brought together 19 nations from around the world and together we experienced different cultures and cuisine. What a wonderful experience! I look forward to this year’s Festival of 22 nations, I am sure it will be a success as well. (Please sign up with the form provided to represent your country below at the bottom of this newsletter).
We now look forward to seeing you at the March events. Our Fun Run/Walk-a-Thon brought in a record number of participants this year and was a great fundraiser. It was announced at our February PTA Meeting that the fundraising amount was over $18,000. Although the Boosterthon brought in a great amount of funds for our Rattlers we look forward to other opportunities that will give a greater percentage back to the school and our students. Please pass on any ideas for next year’s fundraisers. Thank you all very much and we greatly appreciate your support!
Raba has even more to celebrate... Our art teacher, Ms. Gonzalez has been working very hard with our students in creating beautiful artwork to submit to the Texas Cavaliers River Parade Art Contest... We are proud to announce that one of our fifth-grade students, Brooke Baker is the City Council District 6 winner! There will be a press conference early March to find out if she will be named the grand prize winner. Good luck Brooke! Raba also has the runner-up, another 5th-grade student, Lliyiah Su-Moreno. Congratulations to them both!
Our Autism teacher, Ms. Irene Gonzalez was surprised by the Northside Education Foundation Prize Patrol where she was awarded a grant to purchase items for the sensory room. Can’t wait to see the joy on the students’ faces as they explore the new equipment.
Also, our rocking Raba Robo Builders are paving their way to the top; they won 1st place in the district to qualify for the regionals! They will be going on to compete March 24th at McCollum High School for the Championship. Good luck to Ms. Williams, Ms. Griego and the Raba Robo Builders! Way to Go... You can do it!!!!
The last two weeks of March are important weeks for our second, third, fourth and fifth grade English Language Learners (ELL). Our ELL students will take the TELPAS Reading, Listening and Speaking online Test on the following dates:
5th Grade- March 19th
4th Grade- March 20th
3rd Grade- March 21st
2nd Grade- March 22th
In addition, STAAR Testing will be here before you know it for our fourth and fifth graders. Fourth grade will take the Writing STAAR Test and fifth will take the Math STAAR Test on April 9th (Closed campus during the week of April 8 - 12 for STAAR Testing). Fifth grade will also take the Reading STAAR Test on April 10th. Makeups will complete the STAAR testing week. Please make sure your child gets a good night sleep and eats a healthy breakfast.
Lastly, Let’s Keep Moving Forward!
Yours in education,
Mrs. Francesca L Neal

Next week is School Breakfast Week. March 4th-8th
Each day we will learn about a healthy breakfast and tell you about “Texas” foods that are great for breakfast.
The School Breakfast Program serves over 14 million children every school day. Students who eat breakfast are more likely to: Score higher on tests; have better memories; are more alert, and stay healthier.
Be sure to go to breakfast every day next week. See what surprises there will be at breakfast and help break our participation record for most students eating breakfast this week. Eat breakfast and fuel up for a great day of learning!
A Word from the Nurse
- Please provide a weather-appropriate change of clothes for Pre-K and Kinder students.
- Please keep your child's Emergency Card up to date. I need working phone numbers in case of an emergency.
Thank You, Nurse Keri
