Social Studies Week 4
Sept. 28 - October 2
Highlights of the Week!
9.29: We walked through two more examples of the PACED model for economic decision making after taking current events. Most hours had enough time to take the short quiz at the end to reinforce if they were mastering the concepts or not.
9.30: This was the last day of current events for September and all students were expected to turn them in on this date if they hadn't done so already. Students were then asked to make their own PACED example from start to finish to show mastery on the subject.
10.1: We started current events for October and the expectation is that students record current events for 10 school days, there are 20 school days in the month of October so they can take half of them off. We then took notes on the essential parts of all maps and used the acronym TODALSS to help us remember (Title, Orientation, Date, Author, Legend, Source, Scale). An assignment was given out for the kids to create a scale map that is in color depicting the route they would take from their house to the Middle School (landmarks like rivers, golf courses, parks, etc. are also to be depicted on the map). This assignment is due on Monday the 5th.
10.2: We watched current events and learned about a trend that may come to the United States in where you catch your dinner at the restaurant... talk about fresh! We then watched a video on The Louisiana Purchase and how the expedition of Lewis and Clark was instrumental in cataloging many new species of plants and animals; as well as finding many crucial waterways to the west.
