Jaguar News
Volume 2, Issue 35 - April 26, 2019
Dear Gentry Families,
Please, join me congratulating Ms. Maynard, Ms. Cunningham and the Jaguar PAWS (Gentry’s Gender and Sexuality Alliance), members, who were celebrated and received the Catalyst Award on April 24 from the University of Missouri's Division of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity. This is a HUGE honor and reflects how much of an impact this club has had on our school and our community.
The Catalyst Awards are an annual celebration of those who speak up, out and often for the LGBTQ Community. This annual tradition has recognized individuals for the previous 21 years for their impact on LGBTQ inclusion at Mizzou, in Columbia, and in Mid Missouri.

Parent/Student Athletic Information Night
We will be hosting our GMS Parent/Student Athletic Information Night on Tuesday, May 14th at 6:30 pm in our cafetorium. At this meeting our athletic director will be presenting information regarding athletic opportunities for incoming 7th/8th grade students, required MSHSAA paperwork, our summer athletic camp schedule and information regarding registration. Our A.D. will also be available to field any questions that you may have regarding Gentry athletics. Go Jaguars!
Sixth Grade Get Acquainted Night
It's ALL about our incoming 6th grade students! If you have a current 5th grade student who will be attending Gentry next year, please plan on joining us for our 6th Grade Get Acquainted Night on Monday, April 29th from 6-8:00 pm. This night is designed for both the student and parent alike. Our principal, Dr. Bishara will be presenting pertinent information regarding the upcoming year and our 6th grade team of teachers will be on hand to answer questions and lead students on a scavenger hunt to familiarize everyone with our building. Hope to see you there!
Gentry's Beehive
The science department at Gentry has recently acquired an active beehive! It is home to 10,000 bees and has been placed behind the trailers where it will soon become a focal point of our garden and outdoor classroom.
The purpose of having a hive on campus is to provide students with an opportunity to understand, engage and learn from honey bees in order to connect with the natural environment. The hope is that students will engage with nature in new ways while developing the skills necessary to act as stewards of the natural environment.
Teachers have discussed with students our rules and safety regulations with regard to the hive and bees. In the near future, a small fence will be placed around the hive to protect students from approaching the hive unknowingly, and to protect the hive from the elements. We are very excited about being one of the schools in CPS to have a beehive!

This week's StuCo staff members of the week are Ms. Noltie for “always making her students laugh, being a great teacher, and for helping her students out when they need her” and Mrs. Powell for “making sure her students understand what they need to know, for always being available when her students need extra help, and for answering emails at all hours of the night!”
