A Message from the Principal

Dear HFCS Community,

Journey with the Holy Family

Big picture

I look forward to the time when our campus is open again and you are able to join us in the library for Monday Morning Prayer and other community events. If you were standing in the library right now you would certainly notice the Journey with the Holy Family display which our students created under the guidance of Sr. Immaculata. One of the school goals that emerged from our accreditation self-study last year was to “Define and enhance the Holy Family Charism.”

What is a charism? Sr. Annie Klapheke, SC describes it as “the spirit of the community. Like the strong, driving wind in the Pentecost story, it is a powerful energy that permeates through the community members and the way in which they do their ministries.” http://www.catholiccincinnati.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/What-is-Charism.pdf

In 1970 our school and church moved from St. Alice Church and School to our current location, and we acquired a new name, Holy Family, in order to emphasize the unique sacredness of family life. The sacredness of family life is at the core of our charism, and Jesus, Mary, and Joseph are our models. Our library display of the Journey with the Holy Family illustrates the important events in the life of Jesus’ family so that we can learn from them and grow into their virtues of courage, humility, love, faith, and fortitude.

The Diocese is no longer using the IOWA test to assess student learning, we are now using ACT/Aspire. ACT/Aspire allows us to do periodic benchmarking to chart student progress throughout the year, IOWA did not provide this important feature. Like IOWA, ACT/Aspire also has a summative standardized test that is administered once a year; we will not utilize this test until 2021-2022. Within the next few weeks we will be administering ACT/Aspire periodic benchmarking tests to our 3rd through 8th graders. The students will take three periodic benchmark tests during the course of the year. These tests will help the teachers support individualized learning strategies with their students.

Last Friday our faculty and staff received training in hands-only CPR and AED. An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. We are so proud that HFCS is the only Catholic school in the diocese who has met and received the designation as a Project ADAM Heart Safe School, which requires that faculty be trained in CPR and AED.

I hope to see you at our Domestic Monastery Book Study tomorrow evening at 7:00pm, and at our Coffee and Conversation with the Principal at 9:00am on 10-21-20. Please check your emails for Zoom invitations.

We do have email addresses for a handful of our grandparents. This information will be emailed to them today.

The morning will start with grandparents attending Mass virtually at 8:15am. Mass will be streamed live on the parish Facebook page. Live streaming of Mass will begin at 8:10am and our Third Grade Class will host.

Here are the instructions on how to view Mass...

  • Click this link to go to the parish Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/holyfamilyfw?fref=ts
