Saint of the Week

St. Pius X

1835 - 1814

What do you think when you hear the word routine? Dull, boring, and repetitions? That's certainly one meaning, but routine can also mean prepared and disciplined, such as a finely choreographed dance routine. It can also mean regular, like the routine involved in getting ready for bed. And sometimes it can mean all three!

St. Pius X, who is best remembered for encouraging frequent Holy Communion and for lowering the age of First Communion to about seven years old, also encouraged routine reading of the Scriptures. In fact, he urged daily reading of the Bible as part of his motto, "Renew all things in Christ." To promote more regular reading of Scripture, he set up a commission to revise and correct the official text of the Bible used by the Church in addition to establishing the Biblical Institute for scriptural studies.

Getting in the habit of reading uplifting spiritual works such as the Bible requires preparation, discipline, and regularity. First we have to prepare our minds and our hearts. Second, we have to be disciplined. It's all too easy to put off exercise in all forms, and spiritual reading is definitely mental exercise. Finally, we must be regular. If we try a hit-and-miss approach, our learning will also be hit and miss. In short, we have to establish a routine if we want to make any concrete spiritual progress.

Do I have any kind of a routine for regular spiritual reading?

What spiritually uplifting books would I like to read over the next year?

2020-2021 School Approved Monday/Wednesday T-Shirts

Students are allowed to wear the 2020-2021 school approved t-shirt on Mondays and Wednesdays during the year with uniform bottoms. The only school approved shirt for the 2020-2021 school year is a royal blue or navy blue, crew-neck, cotton shirt with the student's school logo. Last year's shirts cannot be worn on Mondays and Wednesdays. The logos can be purchased for $5 a piece through the main office (McAuley building) or by emailing Darren Cook at dcook@jacschools.org.

For this Monday, August 24th only, students may wear a blank royal blue or navy crew neck, cotton t-shirt.

For those families that purchased logos, they will be sent home with students (including instructions on how to iron-on the logo) this Monday, August 24th.

Each student MUST have the logo with the name of the school they attend.

In addition, you may purchase your child's school logo to iron-on a plain royal blue or navy full zip or quarter zip jacket. The jacket cannot have a hood. This jacket can be worn as part of the school uniform.
