iPad/Student Fees are Now Past Due

If you have not paid your student's fees at this time, please do so as soon as possible to avoid late fees. You can view your student’s fees in Skyward Family Access under “Fee Management”. Families have two options for payment of student’s fees:

· Option #1 – a check payable to FCE for the amount posted in fee management can be sent in with your child. Please indicate your child’s name and student ID number in the memo field. Your student’s ID number can be found in Skyward (your children also know this as their lunch number).

· Options #2 – pay via eFunds. There is a link to eFunds within the “Fee Management” section of Skyward on the upper right corner under “District Links”. Please note first time user will need to register in the new user area, you will also need to know your students six-digit student ID number. The third and fourth grade students will be playing the recorder in music class this year. The recorder is a woodwind instrument. Each child will need their own recorder. These may be purchased in the music room. Recorders will cost $3.00. Checks should be written to Fall Creek Elementary. Please place the money in an envelope marked with your child’s first and last name and homeroom teacher. If you need assistance to cover the cost of the recorder, please send in a note. All requests will be kept confidential. Recorder instruction will begin the second nine weeks. All students need a recorder by October 10. Recorders will be kept at school so that the students have them each time for music. They will be sent home at the end of the year and occasionally with 4th graders for practice. If your student would like one for home, please feel free to purchase an additional recorder. If you are purchasing more than one recorder, please indicate that on the outside of the envelope. I do not always open the envelope right away when it is handed to me. If your child purchased a recorder last year, they do not need to purchase a new one. You may also purchase a recorder elsewhere or bring one that another child has used. I encourage you to not purchase a recorder from the “dollar store”. These are often of poor construction and the students become frustrated when they cannot produce a good tone.

FCE Choir

The students in third and fourth grade do not present a grade level music program but will still have the opportunity to perform a music program by participating in choir. All third and fourth grade students are invited to be a part of the choir. 3rd and 4th grade choir started on October 4. The choir will be meeting on Tuesday and Friday mornings at 8:00 a.m. A calendar of dates and program information will be sent home at the first rehearsal. No registration is necessary, they just need to attend the rehearsal. I know that other groups are meeting on Tuesdays and I try to be very flexible so that students can participate in more than one activity. I would ask that they attend as many rehearsals as possible. For the safety of students, please do not drop off earlier than 7:50 a.m. Prior to 7:50 a.m. adult supervision will not be available. During the first semester we will be preparing for the Veteran’s Day Program, Holiday Program, and Carols and Caring at a local retirement center.

New 10-Digit Dialing begins October 15, 2016

Due to the addition of a new area code that takes effect October 15, 2016, 10-digit dialing will be required for all local and long distance telephone calls. If you have saved Fall Creek Elementary as a contact, please remember to change your FCE entry to 317-594-4180.

FISHBOWL Student Newspaper is back!

Students can start turning in their items NOW! The deadline for articles for the first edition this school year is October 10.


A HUGE thanks to all the students, parents, staff and volunteers that made the Annual FCE Fun Walk a HUGE success! The kids were able to spend time being active, dancing to fun music, enjoying popsicles and time with friends. Everyone had a great time! Collectively, over $18,500 was raised for FCE to be used for so many “extras” such as field trip transportation, school cultural events, special guest speakers, teacher requests, creating student-centered learning environments and more! Class fundraising leaders for each grade were as follows: KG – Thompson, 1st - Habegger, 2nd -Groninger, 3rd- Howard/Schank, 4th - Douglass. Student top fundraisers for each grade were: KG - Andrew T, 1st- Matthew B & Marlie G, 2nd- Kelsey C, 3rd – Sam M, 4th- Valencia O. The class that raised the most funds for the entire school was...Thompson! Collin O was selected as our drawing winner for turning in pledge sheets by September 26. For the pedometer challenge, Ging’s class was the most active and earned their own pedometers. Way to go! The popsicle pass, PTO movie night pass, book fair credit, and pedometer prizes will be awarded Friday. If your child does not receive their reward in Friday’s folder, please feel free to contact Carrie at carriedevineransom@hotmail.com.

The 2016 PastaBowl drive set a new record by collecting 15,228 pounds of food - 112 pounds of pasta were collected at FCE! To put that in perspective, that is more food than one local pantry gave out all of last year! Where does all that pasta go? Thanks to the PastaBowl team of Meijer, Harvest Food Bank, Citizens State Bank, ProShred, the Hamilton Southeastern Schools Foundation, and the Fall Creek Township Trustees Office that pasta was distributed to more than 40 area food pantries in Hamilton County as well as Second Helpings in Marion County. More than generating pasta, the campaign also raises awareness for the one in seven local children that struggle with food insecurities. Because when you're hungry, it’s hard to learn! The tremendous success of PastaBowl is attributed to the leadership and involvement of students at every school. A special congrats to the winners of this year's traveling trophies: Fishers High School, Riverside Intermediate, and Hoosier Road Elementary.

S.P.O.R.T.S. Basketball Registration – Registrations for boys and girls basketball are still being accepted with a $10 late fee. We do not have a final closing date for so we encourage you to register as soon as possible. Registration forms are available at the S.P.O.R.T.S. office, on the S.P.O.R.T.S. website, at all HSE schools, and the Fishers Library. Parents may also register online and can pay with a credit card or can print the form and submit it to the S.P.O.R.T.S. office with a check or cash payment. Credit cards are not accepted in the office.

Fishers-HSE Girls Basketball – 3rd-8th grade rec evaluations (No evaluations for the 1st/2nd grade division) will take place on Sunday, October 9 in the Fishers High School Auxiliary Gym. 3rd & 4th Grade – 12:30-1:30 p.m.; 5th & 6th Grade – 1:30-2:15 p.m.

High Ability Parent Book Study

Are you interested in learning strategies to best meet the needs of your high ability child? Hamilton Southeastern School district is pleased to offer a four-session book study on A Parent’s Guide to Gifted Children by James T Webb, Janet L. Gore, Edward R. Amend, and Arlene R. DeVries. The book is considered a classic for high ability parents (Dr. Jan Davison). Meetings follow a discussion format without lectures. Walk away with strategies for addressing intensities, perfectionism, sibling issues, and underachievement. It’s a great way to network with other parents of high ability children.

Sessions will be on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-8:00 pm at the Administration Building on 13485 Cumberland Road in the West Conference Room. Meeting dates are:

October 18, October 25, November 1, November 15

The book club is limited to twelve participants, and only one member per family. Late registrants will be placed on a waiting list for a spring morning book club of the same book. I will be offering a book study of Mindset by Carol Dweck in the spring; it will focus on a conversation about growth vs. fixed mindset at a one-time meeting.

If you would like to join the group, contact Meg Strnat, Hamilton Southeastern’s High Ability Coordinator at mstrnat@hse.k12.in.us , who will be facilitating the book study discussions. Please include your child’s name, teacher, and school so they may send home a copy of A Parent’s Guide to Gifted Children before the meetings start.
