Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
March 4th-8th
What's Going On This Week:
- Ms. Harris' Science: This week in science we will continue learning about plants and animals. Our fast growing plants are doing very well! Students are observing and measuring them a few times each week. This week we will start Lesson 5 on animal senses and Lesson 6 on plant/animal adaptations. Students will have a completed study guide by Monday the 11th. The unit test over Lessons 1-6 will be Friday March 15th.
- Mrs. Leonard/Thurston/Uhlenhake's ELA and Math: This week in reading, we will finish our historical fiction unit and work on our classroom book clubs. We will also finish our opinion writing unit in writing. In math, we will start our measurement unit with time and elapsed time. In Mrs. Thurston's class they will take their times facts quiz on Friday.
- Ms. Harris' GT ELA and Math: This week in math we will start our unit on measurement with a week on telling time and elapsed time. Students will practice reading a clock, converting units of time, and calculating elapsed time. On Friday they will have a quiz over this information. In ELA, we will continue working on metaphors, literature webs, and our literary essays. Students will practice analyzing a story using a literature web; as well as diving deep into metaphors and their figurative meanings. There is no spelling this week.

NO HOMEWORK THIS WEEK!
From Ms. Macanas
Hello Parents!
We're passed the halfway point with my full time teaching. I've had an incredible experience so far teaching your students! This week we'll be working on time and measurement in math. Throughout the week, please ask them at random times what the time is on an analog clock. In ELA, we'll be discussing metaphors in poems and write a literary essay independently. In science, we'll be working on animal senses and adaptations! Our goal for this week is to not have any homework as a prize for meeting our goals for the new year. However, this does not mean that they should stop reviewing at home. :)
Other Information:
Dear Parents & Family members,
As part of our plans for Field Day, we are setting up a book table as a station so that every child in the school receives a book to take home. We need would, once again, like to reach out to our wonderful community of parents and family members for donations of gently used K-5th age appropriate books so this can happen. How great a gift to give students free books that they get to select themselves!
Please feel free to drop them off in a box we will have setup in the main rotunda – this box will be marked SUMMER READING DONATIONS HERE.
Thank you so much for your help.
Sincerely,
Media Specialist
