I Love to Read Month

February is recognized nationally as "I love to read" month - although we consistently support students in finding great books to read, we really try to go above and beyond to celebrate reading with/for students throughout the month. This is also an opportunity for us to celebrate reading as a full school, have some school fun/activities tied to reading, and highlight the many benefits in life there is to being able to read not only for the jobs they may have but also for the pure joy of reading a good book or story!

Join us in our efforts in celebrating reading by checking out a new author, series, or genre at home. Also, continue reading with your child as much as possible as well - especially in the primary years as you will likely have just as much fun as your son/daughter will!

Parent/Teacher Conferences are coming up this month!

On either February 18 or 22, parents/families will have the opportunity to connect with the classroom teacher of their son/daughter. What's new is this spring all of our conferences will be completed virtually. Your child will still be scheduled a 30 minute block of time to meet with the teacher but instead of coming into Hawthorne, everyone will be able to meet virtually to discuss student progress.

Teachers will send each family their meeting link through google meet (any email address will work) and at the time of the conference, families will click on the link to join the meeting. As we continue to work through the pandemic, we want to ensure that we keep everyone as safe as possible yet still be able to talk about how things are going at Hawthorne.

If you have any questions, please be sure to connect with your son/daughters classroom teacher for support.

Outdoor gear

Please remind your son/daughter to bring their outdoor snow gear (hat/gloves/snow pants/boots, etc.) in order to play in the snow. If students do not have those items, we ask that they stay on the blacktop to avoid getting wet or snow all over them.

Thank you!
